October 13 Front Beach

Old timers will tell you that two days of non-stop rain will affect the fishing, but Vegas Dave is known to cut against the grain. Besides, the ocean looked calm, and the prior week we caught our first Bulls of the season off the beach. So we loaded bait, cigars and beer onto the boat and headed to the usual spot.

The Bulls were nowhere to be found, but we did run into schools of Bluefish, Southern Whiting and the ubiquitous BSBs. Sharpnose Sharks replaced the Bulls temporarily at the spot locals call “the rocks”. We boated 15 full sizers, not the juveniles that we were catching the prior several weeks.

We made an attempt to escape the low salinity water by running out to the 40 but got stopped in our tracks by washing machine waves driven by the NNW wind.

A fun day. Sometimes you just gotta get out there and see what’s biting.
