Looking for some tips. I come down in July and bring the boat. I’ve halfway figured out the reds and trout pattern in July. We are coming back down October 7 and bringing boat. Looking for redfish and trout patterns for October. Tides, etc. Are they in the creeks or out in bigger water? I really want to get into the bull reds. They aren’t around inshore in July so I don’t have much experience with them. I know the Rocks is a good place for them in October. Any other tips? Places to look, setups, bait? Does tide affect them like the inshore reds? Thanks for any advice you may have.
Live or cut mullet on the bottom off beach front at the “Rocks” between communication tower and Edisto Water Tank a mile out from beach front. This area is no secret. If the weather is good, it is not unusual to see several boats in this area making it easy to locate. The turn of the tides two hours before/after flood tide or low tide is a good time to target bull red drum. You can also pick up a whiting or two on the bottom with lighter tackle. I’ll scale the whiting or mullet for smell and put him on an 8/0 hook, 80lb yozuri disappearing pink fluorocarbon leader 3’ with four ounce pyramid sinker on a slide for no resistance. Fishing on the turn of the tide is best, because that’s when the water slows and the fish start to feed. I typically use Penn 320GTI on a 7’ Tiger Rod by Shakespeare spooled with 40lb Cajun red mono. I also use Penn Clash 4000 spinning reels spooled with 80lb power pro vermillion red braid. The longer you fight a bull red the longer it takes to revive them for release. Be prepared to take your time for a safe release after taking pictures. Good luck brother! I’ll be on the water too, so give me a call if you have a question, want a fishing report or need help.

Creeks are loaded with bait. Catch shrimp and mullet at low tide and target structure on the bottom or floating a cork with shrimp and finger mullet. Look for live oysters and trees. This time of year is lots of fun inshore. If you find clear water, the fish should be in these locations. Milton, Shingle, Bailey, St Pierre, Scott and Fishing creeks are good places to locate fish inshore. If you have clear water, structure and fresh bait, the bite should be immediate. If you haven’t had a bite in twenty minutes, you should relocate. Sometimes it takes fishing several spots to locate a school of fish. Good luck brother!

Thanks a lot Buddy. May see you on the water.
Exactly what capt said, we hammer the bull reds in that area during October. Cut mullet is the ticket and don’t be surprised if there are many boats around you. Bring plenty of bait and I like to bring some lighter rods and shrimp to catch smaller stuff while we are waiting on the bulls. Good luck!
