OFF TOPIC: Wireless coverage at Edisto Beach?

Hi all, please forgive the off topic. Heading to Edisto with the family for the week, but I just started a new job and probably need to work a few of the days when we aren’t out fishing. Do any of the AT&T/Verizon/Sprint/etc wireless broadband/3g/whatevertheycallit work down there or am I going to spending a few horus a day at the bookstore?

I have a AT&T card and it works on the island. If I recall correctly there is a Sprint / Nextel tower local. Coverage should be good.

Thanks. Did at&t start working recently? Last time I was there was august last year, and I have having a hard time getting good enough service to use with laptop.

peck it depends on where you are on the island. At my place near the old post office, there is an AT&T tower and I get 5 bars. Near Bucks Pizza I get maybe 1 or 2 bars. Near the marina is better. I also had service while fishing in the St Helena Sound, FWIW

Verizon works most places.

I have had AT&T for several years and coverage was good. Just switched to Verizon and coverage does not seem as good as AT&T. The tower is close to the PIG so you should be good to go if you are staying close.

Verison has a site on the big blue water tank/tower. Great view from the top of that tank.

We’ll be staying on Myrtle, and according to the website (by way of the wife) we should have internet at the house we’re renting. So hopefully I’ll be good to go and they won’t want to fire me for taking a few days our a month after starting :slight_smile:

Thank yall all for the info, and if you see a 26 ft proline with a couple of guys trying to figure out just what the heck they’re doing this week that’ll be us.

I lose cell phone signal (verizon) about 12-13 miles straight out the jetties…if I run south as soon as I get near the tower on edisto, I pick my signal back up. When I worked Colleton County EMS I switched to verizon (aka Alltel) and we also swithched the phone in medic 4 cause we could call out…
