offshore for first time

Can this forum be used to get advice? I want to fish offshore for the first time this October. Heading out from the south end of HHI. What reefs or other fishing spots would be recommended? Don’t want to go too far, 5 to 7 miles at most. Any suggestions? Any places to net for live bait on the way out near south end on HHI?
Will have grandkids with me so would love to find some fish.

Thanks

Recommend you purchase a maps unique that will show you all the live bottom you need to fish offshore. http://offshore-fishing-map.com/ Since this is your first time I also recommend you buddy up with another boat just to keep it safe. These two buoy on Grays Reef and off of edisto is a good indicator of conditions offshore: http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=41008 http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=41004 There are plenty of great guys on this site that can answer all your questions. Wish you tight lines!

No offense meant, but questions like this worry me. Do you really think it’s a good idea to take your grand kids offshore, when you’ve never been and need to ask where to go

How big is the boat? How is it equipped? How old are the kids, and can they swim?

Just want to second what Capt. Larry said. Even though you’ll be “close”, the same preparations and safety precautions should be utilized as if you were heading for blue water. There are a lot of accidents (perhaps preventable) that occur very near the shoreline. Keep asking questions on here and get up with someone with experience that can go out with you on your boat.

Oct, looking for big fish, plenty of Jumbo Reds in Calibogue Sound, much safer for the Grand kids.
