That’s what I am talking about brother

Nasty,
Started from scrath. 4 Penn Int. 30’s on stand-up 6" roller rods, 3 Shimano Torium 30’s on 5’6 stand-up roller rods, 2 Penn 760 live liner on 6" Trevala 50-10# rods, 3 Penn 750ssm 7" 30# slammer rods and 2 Penn 4/0 Senators on 7" 30-60# slammer rods. Not sure if I have the right reels on the right rods (was thinking the 760L and Senators for bottom/jigging and the 750ssm for pitching) but using them will tell. Have all spinning reels with 30# mono backing and 50# braid. Senators with 50# backing and 50# braid. Thoughts and tips are welcome. What type leader should I use for both bottom and pitching?

the more I read and hear the better the Sargus reels are…seem better bought by themselves instead of paired with a Penn slammer rod…not that the rod is THAT bad, just I think you could do better for a few extra bucks…

animal cruelty sucks…unless his lip hurts cause there is a 1/0 Owner Aki hook with a chinaback stuck in it

Good article about the Sargus posted above in the link. Whoever the guy is that did the report did a great job breaking down the reel but he thinks you can build an $80 reel with all the features of a $200 reel. The only thing that is not true in the article is the part where he is saying Penn lets contractors build their reels. In the old Penn days I’m sure that’s what they did because it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to look at the captiva and silverado and tell there was no thought put into those reels. I am the product coordinator for Penn and I can promise you that we design our product in Columbia and work with our engineers in Philadelphia/Columbia to develop the best reels on the market. Our team in new and its going to take a year or so until consumers like you guys to see a different in Penn products. The Sargus and Conquer are just a few reels that our team has developed.

AFFILIATED WITH PENN FISHING TACKLE [http://www.pennreels.com/] AND [/http://www.pennreels.com/]

Just picked up one of the new Daiwa Saltist spinning reels the 6500 size. First off I am a Shimano man through and through but the price for me was too good to pass up (bps gift cards and reel trade in only made me pay $15 out of pocket) and figured that I could touture test it! The specs seem solid to me for what I want it for (bottom fishing/ possible jigging for blackfin). Hopefully it will work out well, if not looks like I will invest in a Saragosa.

Take’r Easy.

There appears to be a bunch to choose from in this price range. I would like to hold a SG8000. I like its price alot.

If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you’ve got an electrical problem.

Do you live near Haddrell’s Point bait and Tackle? They have them! I can promise you that the Sargus is the smoothest and strongest reel at that price point. As for the Fin Nor, I would stay away from that one, I just bought one this week for a competitive sample and man am I disappointed. I would highly recommend you go handle a Sargus before you decide to do anything. I can also insure you if you buy the Sargus, I will personally help you with any issues you may have with your reel but I know you want have any issues with it. Thanks

Great discussion thread! I purchased a Fin Nor reel 2 weeks ago for the purpose of pitching some baits this summer. After reading this, I am going to ship it back tomorrow and head over the Haddrell’s Point and give the Sargus a shot.

Fin Nor makes a great spinning reel… Fin Nor also holds over 380 I.G.F.A world records

Sells,

Saw where you mentioned a 12000 Spheros. What about a 8000? I’ve got one rigged with 50lb. diamond braid. Haven’t really tested it much. Do you think that is sufficient for a pitch rod for say, dolphin, sailfish? Bottom for grouper, etc.?

Fishing is the universal language.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.
