226 reads and no reply? Come on, y’all; somebody volunteer to show the man how to bottom fish!
I would, but I can’t tell what I don’t know.

You could search bottomfishing, grouper, snapper, bottom rigs, and have hours of reading. There are volumes of good info on here. I would also look up AJ’s…Why would you keep one? They are full of worms, those little white things are not veins. I keep them for an Asian friend that eats anything with gills, but would not think of eating one.
Pete, Get a Maps Unique, and stay away from the CHS60. There are about 300#'s on that map, and most of the ones on a 155 heading from the south jetty are good bottom. If you run right down that line about 25 miles…you shouldcatch fish.

Pete hook up with me will so you some tips email me weningerfarms @aol.com . You can follow us out to if you would like or ride out with you.

I have a map unique and I have done a bunch of reading and will continue to do more, I still have a lot to learn. I have a buddy that used to be a charter captain if I can ever pull the apron strings off of him maybe he can set me straight. Thanks for the tips though, I am going to try some other spots. -Pete

Sellsfish is a wealth of knowledge in this area. Stay on his good side! We are often looking for a fourth guy to fill the boat. While I am no where near as good as some of the bottom fishing gurus here, we do catch our fair share of fish. Send me an email with your contact info and I’ll keep you in mind for future trips. We probably have a few more bottom trips before we start trolling almost exclusivly.
Talk to you soon. If not, good luck.

Worms are discussting but are harmless to humans. They disolve when cooked. Not that I would have ever done this but, next time you catch one keep it, clean it, and feed to your buddies that don’t fish much. They will love it. Never knowing anthing about the worms.

I have eaten many an amberjack. There are plenty out there, and all you’ve gotta do is cut the shoulders out of em instead of trying to work so hard with your knife. Grouper and snapper have worms and bugs in them too you know?!
Catching and releasing AJ’s just makes them stronger the next time you hook one.
Wish more people would keep some for fish fry’s. All you can eat buffets used to buy them up from commercial diving boats that’d shoot them… somebody must have thought they made decent groceries. And they do.
All good groceries:
Hey Phin- I’ll give you some of the best AJ #'s you’ve ever seen. I boated one (it died in the battle) that went 89.5# after 36 hours iced up. Probably would have been mid- 90’s when pulled over the rails. I will break the state record sometime on that spot. Would be a 60 mile run for you if you’d like.

That’s a good place to take somebody if they insist on arguing that certain reels are not rip offs… Handles will turn backwards there if legitimate offshore reels are not used…
If it is the spot I think you’re talking about, you may want to check for B liners and gags slightly to the east. If something has the AJ’s distracted briefly at their main spot, you can also catch scamps if you are stealthy about it.

That’s because you can’t see the worms once its fried up.
I know they won’t hurt me, but no thanks, I’ll pass.

So would you not eat sausage made from a 65# doe because she had some ticks on her and a couple worms in her gut?
You’re missing out.

I wouldn’t know anything about does. I only shoot bucks.
And no, the ticks don’t come crawling out of the flesh once it is exposed to air.
I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

You only shoot bucks? Haven’t you ever heard of hound dogs or bows?
