Otter Island

Is there any good fishing around Otter Island. I’ve never been down to Edisto. Going to see family and they boat over to there. I usually do my own homework in my neck of the woods ( Bogue Inlet NC ) but these is short notice trip and anything mentioned will not be repeated. Thanks in advance.

We go over to otter all the time when we are down at Edisto and always wet a line to try our luck. I will say that you will mostly catch sharks and rays (which is fun for the girls and kids) but i have caught plenty trout and a few bass there too. Caught a decent Jack one time too. Mullet is really easy to catch over there right off the beach. I have been spooled about 5 times over (probably sharks and big rays but you never know) so if you have some bigger tackle i would take that and you may catch something with some size. Good luck and enjoy your time over there. I will say it’s one of my favorite spots to relax when i can get over there.

Thanks Koondog. I know the locals don’t like to give to much info which I understand. I’m kind of protective of my areas too. But do try to help out some people especially if they are coming to my neck of the woods to spend their money.

Many Thanks

Might want to follow a buddy over–if you’ve never been there, it could be tricky. Go around low tide so you can see the bars. Then, the next day you’ll be a little more familiar with it and can go around mid-falling tide. I’d recommend going in the morning as you may get caught in a storm in the afternoon. Get some mudminnows or shrimp and fish on the bottom and also with corks around oysters. I think Edisto Watersports takes folks over there so check with them and they may let you tag along.

Come out of Big Bay creek and go up the South Edisto river. When you get to the ICW turn left into ■■■■■■■ cut.Go through the cut and turn left into the Ashepoo River.Follow down until you hit the sound. You will see a few day markers.Otter will be in the left with a nice beach. Tidal range is 7ft so watch your boat. Do not cross the dunes. Bugs and snakes rule. You can use basic surf rig.

Thanks for all the info guys. Looking forward to next week.

Much appreciated!!!

There is a creek off S Edisto that goes into the island. It is hard to find the entrance, but it is on the left about 1/2 mile before you get to the ICW make sure you go and come back on high tide. Good fishing there any time

The creek (Fish) boatpoor is referring to comes out across from Edisto - shallow in spots at low water.

You gotta love the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Thanks for your advice. We caught 4 little reds about 8" yesterday. Hope to get on something a little bigger today.

Glad to hear you had a little action…small reds are better than no reds.

I have found that cut mullet strips will catch much bigger fish than shrimp or minners but the best bait I think is 4-5" live menhaden but hard to keep alive in small boat
