Our Fishing Community

I have always said that I am happy and proud to be a part of the fishing community in Charleston. Sure people tend to argue a little from time to time, but when it comes to helping others this community is as strong as any. I was recently made aware of a fundraiser to help raise money for victims of breast cancer. When you think of victims many times you think of the actual person and the physical burden, but many times you do not think about the tremendous financial burden this terrible disease can cause. The following is a little bit about the fundraiser and event. If you cannot make it and would like to make a donation you can contact Trey Knott at Trey.Knott@noaa.gov

The 3rd Annual Suzy McGrane Memorial, a fundraiser for Share Our Suzy (SOS), will be held beginning at 3pm on Goldbug Island on February 17th. Suzy McGrane was diagnosed in her 20’s with Breast Cancer and supported so many other cancer patients throughout her struggle. Sadly, Suzy lost her battle with cancer in 2005, but SOS is picking up where she left off by bridging the financial gap from diagnosis to remission for Breast Cancer patients in South Carolina. A $20 per person donation includes Barbeque, Beer and a Silent Auction. Live music will be provided by Occasional Milkshake with Doug Jones of Cravin Melon, the Red Dog Ramblers, Rik Cribb and the Problems, the Diesel Brothers and other Special Guests.
