When we began CharlestonFishing.com about 3 years ago I felt like we would be able to build a strong network of people that lived and fished in the Charleston area. As I began to look at the addresses of the people that subscribe to the newsletter I was amazed at the number of people living in upstate South Carolina who subscribe and participate in the site. I must admit that before this happened I was totally ignorant of the number of people that live more than 2 hours from the ocean that love to fish in saltwater.
Tuesday night I had the privilege to speak with the Columbia Saltwater Fishing Club. I was not really sure what to expect or what great information I would be able to share with them. When I arrived at the VFW there was already a group of about 30 anglers and only one familiar face in the crowd, but Richard Best, club president, saw me come in the door and immediately made me feel right at home. Everyone began to introduce themselves and the topic of our conversation soon turned to fishing. I even met a couple of people that found out about the Columbia Club from CharlestonFishing.com and this made me feel good to know we helped them find a group of anglers in their area.
After some light snacks and cold drinks the food arrived. We all ate until we were full and then the meeting began. Richard covered a few items of business and introduced me to the club. I explained a little bit about the site and then opened up the floor for questions. Members asked about fishing trends in the Charleston area and were very interested in what to expect for the next several weeks. I told them what we typically expect this time of year and they were all very appreciative and thanked me for my time.
I am writing this article to thank the folks of the Columbia Saltwater Fishing Club for their hospitality and kindness and also to let people in the Columbia area know that there is a club in your area that meets monthly and loves to fish in saltwater.
The club welcomes new members and the dues are $60.00 per y
