Hey guys and gals im heading in saturday to stay until friday with the fam and plan to fish some during the week. Never fished this part of the water as im from western ky and a big catfisherman. But love to fish for anything. Bringing my rods and some tackle but would love some advice on baits and some fairly decent locations. Ill be staying near the folly beach pier. Thanks for any info guys
I’m am extremely familiar with folly… What do you hope to catch? Fresh/live shrimp or mud minnows from Crosby’s (on folly rd, about 2-3 minutes from the pier) will catch just about every small thing in the surf. Whiting, trout, flounder, small reds, blacks, maybe a blue, skates, stingrays, etc. Cut mullet will catch you big reds, maybe blues, and smaller sharks. Whole bonito (haddrells point) will catch you big sharks. Fish the pier for all the small stuff, and you can toss gotchas for blues and spanish. Fyi, a 4/0 hook is the biggest thing legal on the pier, and NO steel allowed. Shark fishing from the pier or three blocks east/west of the pier is against the law. Other than that, fair game. Fishing near one of the rock jetties can be more productive if you want trout/reds/flounder, because of the structure. I have fished the north end A LOT. Seen or caught just about everything there near the jetties, but it’s a long walk if you are tugging a lot of gear… Hope this was helpful, and please post how you do!
