Paddle Boarders in the Surf?

Oh…my…gosh! You…have…got…to…be…kidding…ME!!! Twelve!..REALLY!!!

These folks were back and forth for 3 freakin’ hours!!! REALLY!!!

I feel you man. I don’t understand why they gotta be in my lines when there are literally miles of beach they could be using

If you had a Bull Horn and yelled (I’m Shark Fishing Here), wonder if that would have made a difference?

I was thinking maybe a 3oz pyramid with a 2oz trailer aside the head. Then scream WOOPS…SORRY! They were, for the most part, oblivious. Untill I had to whistle at them.

People dont give a ----, see it all the time at the beach, running into your line, running over your line, I dont think they even think about it, and when they do they dont care.

just for fun looked to see if paddleboarders have a forum too…sounds like you need to bring a kayak! however ill tell you from experience that doesnt help 100% of the time either.

I think it’s pretty stupid to paddle board in

1)the ocean
2)the harbor (you know…shipping and boating lanes)
3)the jetties. (actually saw a guy at the grillage…so…)

Shem Creek, Folly River, Bohicket, around IOP and place where boats go slow…I don’t have a problem.

I was fishing off the folly pier today. I had 2 run into lines(one breaking losing me 30$ish In equip). No reason for it. They were within 20ft of the end of pier. At least I sent one away with a souvenir. A gotcha hooked in his leg.

Here is another shot of the same group, after whistling. Note lines are in. Good thing the bite was slow. We left shortly after.

Hey guys I am not trying defend anyone here. But I am myself a very avid surfer and fisherman. They more than likely were trying to stay in a certain break. Judging by the size of the group it was probably a school going on. If so this more than likely the area they surf and teach all the time. If it is not, then its probably just a group of amature tourist and have no idea what they are doing.

They were definatly NOT surfing, they were all on…well trying to be on paddle boards. Sure, I could tell they were being “taught” but I had been on the beach since dawn. You would think their “teacher” would have advised them adout the hazards of hooks & lines. And yeah I know it’s a public beach and all that. But when I get to the beach and folks are surfing/boarding I will move up current from them and give them plenty of room. IOP beach is 6.5 miles long, why would they need to be right in the middle of the 30yard section of trough I have hooks in? Which by the way has no real waves anyway. In the 15+ years I’ve been surf fishin’ the low country I have only had two encounters with surfers/boarders who were paying attention. Once a guy on Folly ask what direction the current was and even got behind me at looked at my lines, “I’ll stay north of you then” he was from Florida, go figure. I shook his hand and told him to have fun. And tomorrow looks like 1.5’ at 9 seconds with a cross wind, should be no surfers with those little sets, right? Wishful thinking…

You need to bring an extra rod with you next time. Put out your normal lines. have a 3 oz. Hopkins with a treble for casting. Keep slinging it as they come near. Nothing says you can’t hook a nice Spanish on the surface… or maybe an butthole on a board.

That is why I always fish as close as I can to a rock groin. Better chance at redfish or black drum and most folks stay away from the rocks.

I wonder if a paddleboarder will fit in the pier net?

Seriously, how was the water out there when you weren’t dealing with the a-holes that can’t read the giant signs on the end if the pier?

Water has been fairly good. Lots of spanish(small in 1-2b range) and good amount of mullet showing on the outgoing tide.

I’m throwing 3 BS flags down on this one.

Funny guy. Go to beach on weekend and watch the bs that’s dealt with at pier, folly, and even IOP. Surfers, paddleboarders, sea doos, and sometimes boats. Sometimes throwing a jig in their direction is our only deterrent. Also I forgot cf.com motto, if you post the trolls will come ha

#1 reason you will never see me NEAR a pier. I can deal with the occasional kite, paddle, surf boarder in my areas. You guys can have all the fun with the piers. I do quite well standing in the water. And it’s free.

Haha ya I am excited get back to surf fishing this fall. Pier fishing is def not the most relaxing somedays, but it is the only way I have found to target mackerel in charleston. Thankfully it’s a short season compared to the surf and inshore

You say mackerel, I supose you eat them? My opinion, Kings? Nasty…maybe a Spanish. But King mackerel? I hope you don’t eat a lot of King, got lots of mercury in them.Yuck! I fished the Cherry Grove & Tilghman(gone awhile now) piers (north myrtle beach) as a kid, back before there weren’t so many crazy folks wantin’ to move closer to our beatiful coast. Used to wach the guys on the end of the pier fight with all the gear, people elbow to elbow fighting over a few tiny Spots and Croakers. We used to go down to the beach and fill a five gallon bucket full of whiting and spots, look up at all the craziness on the pier and shake our heads. Oh yeah, it was free to surf fish back then too.
