Just back from Panama, and wondering why (85 degrees to 35 degrees). Got a black marlin that taped out to 882 lbs. This fish ate a live bonita, and was caught on stand up tackle. After 2 1/2 hours and 5 attempts at the leader, she relented. We worked her for 45 min. at the boat and she kicked off strong. We caught many other fish also, sail, cuberra, dolphin, blue travelly, jacks, ect. Just another day in paridise.
The surf has gone flat, only found 2 breaks, one was throwing chest to head high over 2 feet of water on live reef, not for the faint of heart. I caught one wave and and watched rocks get exposed in front of me, that was enough for me. So I went to the sandbar by our property, it extends out 6 miles with a left that wraps, but it was mushy, but fun on the longboard.
Nice pics lh!! I bet you slept good that night!! Does anyone have any opinions of where the best place to go fishing?? Outside of our country Venezuela, guatamala, Mexico, etc just wondering thinking of planning a trip! Thanks guys!!!
Kryp… this was on the pacific , Boca Chica, which is about 60 miles from Costa Rica. Mr King, I would have to say Panama, about 5 years ago some buddies and I started running two boats from Costa Rica to fish Panama. After doing this a few times we decided to buy property in Panama and have not looked back.
Good job on the black and nice pics as well Ledge. how was the overall bite? I’m curious because I’ll be in Quapos, Costa Rica slightly north of Panama at the end of the February. We also wanted to go to Panama but, unfortunately everyone in the group couldn’t afford the extra $$
Johnny, Dad is loving it in Panama, it only took me 2 years to get him to go to Panama and see the project, now he will not leave. It is great having him down there as our caretaker, and we get to fish togeather alot more. I just need to get him back into surfing. No he does not have vw, but he is starting to look like Hemingway.
Nailer, that is a great time of year to fish CR, that area is great for sailfish, really big ones, and marlin will be in the mix also.
Florida boy, Los Suenos is another good spot, take the trip you will not regret it.

congrats on catching that big girl! it was a pleasure to meet you and your family, I dont feel so bad leaving without checking out the surf. I just didnt have the time to do both this last trip. I have not posted yet because im still waiting for the pics and video to be emailed to me, so watch for it.
by the way, good job on the cabbina’s Im surprised you still have a couple for sale. definitely the best ones in the area. again, congrats on a great trip.
Nailer, The fishing in Costa Rica has suffered greatly due to the over use of longlines. I just got back from a Costa Rica and had the two of the slowest days fishing ever. We saw one sailfish, caught one bonito and lost a dorado. The guy I was fishing with said that the longlines have dramatically reduced the fishery. It was totally different from the last time I was there seven years ago. We were fishing the exact same area as the Los Suenos boats and I did not see any of them hooked up. Hopefully it will be better when yoyu get there.
