I got out with little Pete this weekend for some fishing. My wife had a wedding to go to and thought it would be a good time to hit the beach and teach my boy the in’s and out’s of surf fishing. He is genuinely showing interest and also showing improvements from season to season. Surf fishing has brought me so much happiness and joy and I want him to be able to have a connection with nature, and to be able to one day pass on what he’s learned to his children. It would be great if he would be able to tell his kids about the days on the beach with his pop. The water was pretty dirty with the extreme high tides and you can see in one of the photos where the water was covered with grass so thick you could almost walk on it, in a little cut off the Island. Not my favorite time to fish, but getting out and enjoying the outdoors with my boy was reward enough. We finished the weekend with a bunch of baby sharks, 1 red drum, one black drum, a bunch of whiting, 2 small rays and a couple of poor mans tarpon. The lady fish got up and jumped which was fun for Pete. Had two nice shark runs, they bite off mono on red rigs. Little Pete reeled in all the fish and showed good composure and patience on the red. The red hit my bait rod which had a tiny #1 size hook and little piece of shrimp. I thought it was going to pull at any moment ,but kept him calm and patient. He let the fish tire and he landed it:smiley: Troughs were where the fish hit as usual. I had no sun set pic so I pulled one from a previous trip. Good luck folks.
