Pat Forde.........

Pat Forde presents his winners and losers from the coaching carousel.

WINNERS

Will Muschamp. Is he the Lane Kiffin of defense? Muschamp keeps getting better jobs than his résumé merits. Texas wanted the career assistant to replace Mack Brown – but then he was swiped by Florida to replace Urban Meyer. After getting fired there, Muschamp landed a $1.5 million job coordinating an Auburn defense that ranked 91st nationally and 13th in the SEC. The reward for that? Another SEC head-coaching gig, this time at South Carolina. Maybe he learned a lot from that failed tenure at Florida and will be better this time. If not, his current career trajectory suggests he will be head coach of the Dallas Cowboys next.

LOSERS

South Carolina. The Gamecocks got a nice jump on finding a replacement for Steve Spurrier when he abruptly resigned in early October. That still didn’t keep them from multiple rejections in a tortured process that finally landed on a coach who has been fired within the same division of the SEC, Will Muschamp. This is the strangest and riskiest hire of 2015.

In better news he does say the ACC Coastal were big winners. Thanks UGA and well done VT & UVA

Ouch! That stings, a lot.

Who is Pat Forde?

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.

The fact that he points to Auburn as a failure destroys any credibility this article may have for me. He was the 3rd DC in 4 years there and inherited a culture that Malzahn did not have his defense hitting at practices to keep injuries low. They were soft and ill-prepared. I think his track record as a DC is proven. As a HC we will wait and see. The first go around at FL was not good, but time will tell.

Really not news…the recruits decommitting and/or “keeping” their options open shows they aren’t buying into the hire either. Like it or not social media influences these kids and the are very impressionable. Happened at Clemson too.

Time will tell, but the Kiffin comparison is funny.

“Living’s mostly wasting time and I’ll waste my share of mine”

Hired two more good recruiters in Bryan McClendon and Pat Washington today. It seems he is making some nice hires for assistant positions with an all out emphasis on recruiting. This could become a great battle for the crop of really good players expected to come out of our state in 2018. I’ve said all along it benefits both Clemson and USC if both programs are strong.
