Just pulled out a couple reels my Grandfather gave me and both were Penn 210’s. Anyone have an idea if they can handle surf fishing? Also they are making some loud noises when reeling them, this will require some oiling and greasing correct?
They can handle it, but they aren’t the best casting reels out there! I would clean and lube them then test cast them to see if you can get any distance out of them.

Is that something I could do myself? Or should I pay the professionals to do the work?
The noise is probably the clicker. The button is on the opposite side from the handle. It slides toward the center of the reel for on or away from the center for off. It only moves about 1/4". If want to get rid of them I’d be interested.

That was it! I will keep you in mind if I ever plan on getting rid of them, but for now I will try them out and see how they are. They are special for sentimental reasons as well. I kept trying to push that button in not move it towards me.
