Penn Sargus/Spinfisher Combo

Looking for a reasonable 9-10 foot surf rod. Would love to have a St Croix Mojo Surf, but can’t justify the cost. Tackle Direct has a special on a Penn Sargus 6000 paired with a 10 foot Penn Spinfisher surf rod for under $100. I really like the Sargus 4000 I have on a 7 foot surf rod, but don’t know anything about the Penn Spinfisher surf rod. Anyone familiar with this rod? Any other recommendations for a surf rod and reel combo anywhere close to this price? I am ususally throwing cut bait or finger mullet with 3-4oz pyramid. Thanks

I have two 9’ Calypso Seahawks that I’ve had for 7 or 8 years. They’re really great rods, and I’ve caught lots of fish on them. Both are on their second reels.

I also have a 11’ Daiwa Beef Stick that is pretty tough. I’ve had it just as long as the Seahawks.

For 100 bucks that sounds pretty good. That can land you anything from the biggest bull red and even any of the blacktips that will eat your mullet too!

I have a 12ft spinfisher surf rod rated 3-6oz that snapped in half just above the joint while casting on it’s third trip to the beach with 3oz weight and a small bait. I don’t recommend the spinfisher surf rods myself. My fiberglass Penn pursuit rod is a beast though.
