Pier

Is the new pier still a go?

Not much has changed from this time last year as far as a construction date. I know the owners of the pavilion still want to build the pier but the town isn’t making it easy for them to do that. I am all for the pier being built but there is no telling when or if it will happen.

I doubt that it will begin this year with the loggerhead sea turtle season starting in May. Hopefully the construction can begin in October of 08.

Life is not measured by how many breaths you take, but how many times something in your life takes your breath away.

OK guys, I gotta ask. Why do you want a pier at Edisto? I am not a local and only get to visit down there a couple of times a year. I sometimes bring my boat and fish the creeks but most of the time I just fish in the surf.
We used to go to Myrtle back in the old days before it became so commercial. We found Edisto and just fear the same may happen there.
I think about the traffic, the parking mess, the litter and the some of the people piers attract.
I don’t want to cause an argument just asking a question.
I am up near Greenville and I can show you what the results of too people will cause.

I have spent most of my life fishing.
The rest has been wasted.

I sort of have my doubts about a pier, too.

Do you really think a peir will attract that many of the wrong people? i mean im sure alot of locals who live off the island will be coming to fish but during the summer i think it will be great for kids and their parents to spend time together especially those who have never fished or dont have access to boats. Also as far as comercialization and what not, the way the rules are around edisto now i doubt there will be much of that.

I live/work down here now and grew up down here. If there is a peir built here i will most likely never fish off it. i could really care less about fishing from a pier. When i was gorwing up down here i was lucky enough to fish most every weekend wether it be offshore inshore or anything in between. Fishing was the main reason I like being to Edisto as a kid. I was lucky that my family and their friends had boats to take me out on. Most kids that come down here to visit family or go on vacation don’t have a boat to fish on. The peir would be a great option for them. As far as a peir brining in a crowd I really don’t think it will be any worse during the peak months. Edisto is allready full during that time. It might even be one more thing to bring in bussiness/people during the off months. Also if it weren’t for hurrican David Edisto could possibly still have a pier in the same location as the new one being preposed (asuming one of the later storms wouldn’t have taken it down)

I can see both sides of the situation.

at least all the “undesirables” will be on the pier and not roaming the beach. It’ll be easier to keep track of them.

Hmmmm. Maybe it will be a good place to find some of the “desirables” as well. LOL.
