That Dabo is a recruiter pulling out the pinky swear on those kids.
After being released, a lot of fish die, but a lot of them live also.

Then why does Saban own him in national championships? Saban’s been at Bama since Dabo’s been at Clem?

Typical coot joining the Bama bandwagon. Why not though? If I were a coot, I probably would too.

Do you realize how asinine of a comment that is? Try to count how many other coaches you could say that about Saban. In NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS… let that sink in for a minute.

Saban owns everyone in Natty’s, but Dabo did come in Sabans backyard and steal the Number #1 recruit in Alabama. Like I said, Goat doing Goat things.

I guess the next step is for Dabo to sucker the Clem admin in for a few million bucks to build a trophy case big enough to stick that recruit in…

Once you have an AD that actually knows what he is doing, your athletics should take a step forward again. I think we can all agree that Tanner was not a good hire.

POINT FOR RBF
After being released, a lot of fish die, but a lot of them live also.
Copy and paste:
PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. — Terry Don Phillips would saunter out to Clemson football practices a decade ago. He liked to observe coaches, being the athletic director and having played the game himself to high levels at Arkansas in a previous life.
A raw-boned, East Texas-bred defensive lineman, Phillips usually watched the big guys. Felt more at home with the grunts of the game. But more and more, Phillips was drawn into foreign territory. He found himself gravitating to Clemson’s receiving corps. Phillips couldn’t avert his attention from an energetic assistant coach. Dabo Swinney was doing more than teaching Tigers how to catch and block. Even on a practice field in the Blue Ridge foothills, Swinney was impacting lives.
Swinney now is the Clemson head coach, and the Tigers, conquerors of Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, play Alabama on Monday night in the national championship game. Clemson is in the Big Bowl because seven years ago, Phillips took a flier on a young coach who had caught his eye.
When Phillips fired Tommy Bowden six games into the 2008 season, Swinney was named interim coach. He had two strikes against him: 1) assistants from a failed administration almost never get hired past an interim basis; and 2) Swinney had not so much as been a coordinator.
“If I’m on the outside, and I’m going to hire a coach, there’s no way I can hire Dabo,” said Phillips, Oklahoma State’s athletic director from 1995-2002. “At the time, he did not have the credentials to be the head coach.”
But Phillips had a gut feeling. To this day, seven years later, he can’t really explain what he saw in Swinney, other than the rapport he had with players.
“It all started when I’d go out on the practice field, I’m seeing this receiver coach, I mean, he’s got fire in his breeches, and he’s tough on ‘em, but they’re really reacting to him well,” Phillips said. “Walk through the hallway, see these players that migrate to him, not necessarily his position players … he’s just got some special qualities to
“To our recollection (and archives), Mike Locksley (then Illinois-OC), Calhoun, Brent Venables (OU Def Coord), Lane Kiffin and Brady Hoke (then at undefeated Ball State) were contacted and interviewed for the position. Patterson did not formally interview for the job after hearing of our financial offer through his agent, and told us to call back after we were willing to pay big-boy money.”
As I stated nobody else wanted the job including Venables… It was a financial decision due to the state of financial affairs at Clemson at that time… It was in the middle of the great recession… TDP really had nothing to spend on a reputable coaching candidate and Dabo was there on the cheap and just beat SCar…
TDP also knew he was retiring soon and would leave any mess he could have created to the next AD…
Need to read between the lines and not be so biased… Again, it worked out and Dabo ended up being a great hire… But, it was far from design rather than circumstantial needs to fill the position with the Clem faithful being irrational at that point… Facts and history substantiate my version of the truth…

Don’t get me wrong, Saban is a great coach. But you are comparing somebody with 28 years of head coaching experience to somebody with 9. Over the 28 years Saban has 5 championship playoff appearances to Dabo’s 3. I’ll take the odds on 3/9 over 5/28 any day. Check back with us in 17 years and lets make a comparison.
I may be wrong, but I see Alabama having a greater falloff if Saban leaves than Clemson if Dabo leaves due to the type of foundation built and supporting staff.
Actually kind of humorous and I did not know until looking back that Boom was a candidate for the job.

According to the Fanblogs
October 29, 2008
After retaining the firm of Carr Sports Associates, it appears that the search for the next Clemson head football coach will begin in earnest, but – given the potential candidate list – it does not appear that an announcement will be made until after the regular season.
Interim head coach Dabo Swinney is set to get an interview with Tigers AD Terry Don Phillips, however, there is pressure mounting on Phillips to make a substantial hire. Despite his popularity with the Clemson players, Swinney would not be a substantial hire for CU.
One name that is getting attention is long-time Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster. Foster, who has coached for 22 seasons for the Hokies, is considered a good recruiter who is well connected. He’s an intense and sometimes demonstrative coach, which would be a marked contrast with former Tigers head coach Tommy Bowden. Foster has seen the blueprint for building & maintaining a championship-caliber program. Expect Foster to be one of the names on the short list at Clemson.
Another name that has been surfaced in nearly every existing and potential coaching search is that of Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach. Leach’s value may never be higher thanks to his team’s performance this year. The Red Raiders are a potential BCS team this season, thanks to Leach’s decision to re-mix his power offense into a more balanced run-and-shoot spread. Leach is Leach… and that means an infinitely different tone than Bowden. An interesting twist in the Mike Leach angle? Leach was denied a contract extension in the off-season, as the administration asked him to wait until after the season. Too bad for Tech - the price tag is likely to be hefty. It’s yet to be seen if that perceived snub has put a splinter into the otherwise cozy relationship in Lubbock. There’s no question that he could recruit at Clemson and would likely brin
Yep, Boom was just another significant coach at the time that turned down Clem for being too cheap…
Just messin with ya… Dabo has done great… I like Dabo, he is sorta like Opie off Andy Griffith… Has a face only a mother could love, and kinda hard not to like… He likes pinky swears like Opie too…
Peace out…

I have met him and been a big fan since, though I was not the biggest fan of HYPER CHEERLEADER, glad he matured. Peace out.
