Pioneer 197SF & Trolling Motor

Anyone have a 197 SF with a Minn Kota trolling motor mounted to it? I recently purchased the Minn Kota Ulterra and am curious if it is going to work. I was not aware the Ulterra can’t utilize the quick release bracket. I don’t want to open the box and try to mock it up because if I need to sell it, I still want it to be new in box. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You should check the Pioneer Owners website. There are some 197’s with TM and someone has designed a alum. plate for mounting.

What do you mean it can’t utilize the quick release bracket? I just bought the new Ulterra myself and mine is setup on the quick release bracket. Although, I did have to upgrade to the newer style quick release bracket.

I've been on that site and know which bracket you're referring to. That was utilizing the quick release bracket. The Ulterra stated on the box, it is not compatible with that bracket

The box states it is “not compatible with quick release bracket”

That’s interesting. Is yours the 72" one? The Minn Kota website has a compatability chart with all their motors and quick release brackets. They have the Ulterra listed for several different ones.

Yes, mine is the 72".

do not use 72" 112# with any of minn kotas quick release brackets.
the added length increases the torque on the mount, and the brackets cant handle the load.

we have mounted 72" motors on quite a few boats, and yes, some require a mounting plate like the one in this picture, just not with the quick release

That’s no good. I was on Minn Kotas web page for compatibility and recommended brackets. They make a quick release that is recovered for the 72". The RTA-54 model is what they recommend

THAT APPEARS TO BE A NEW PRODUCT I WAS UNAWARE OF.
MY LAST CONVERSATION WITH OUR REP AT MINN KOTA, I WAS TOLD NO QUICK RELEASE FOR THE 72/112. THAT APPEARS TO HAVE CHANGED.
I WILL REACH OUT TO HIM AND CONFIRM.
IF THAT IS THE CASE, THAT WILL MAKE LIFE MUCH EASIER ON EVERYONE.

Awesome. I’m hoping that is the case. I was looking to buy that mount so I can pull the TM off while boat cover is on.

PM “Oneal” on this site.
Not sure what model of TM he has, but he has a quick release bracket on his 197SF.
He may be able to give you some help or advise.

I stand corrected and properly informed
I heard from my guy at Minn Kota, and the RTA-54 is indeed the approved quick release for the 112# 72" ulterra

"Yes, sir. That is the recommend quick release bracket for the RT Ulterra 72” motor.

Thank you Chris. I actually sold the Ulterra and bought the Terrova with 72". I’m assuming the same bracket needs to be used?
