Any one seen any big pogies out there pretty dead in st Helena right now
saw large school on Edisto side of Otter Island on Saturday afternoon
Best bet for the big ones this time of year is to either ride about a mile off front beach north and look for pelicans diving or ride out the marked channel of St Helena. Those are almost always the big ones.
I saw them between Pine and Otter’s last Monday. They were big and also saw a few sharks feeding up on them.

quote:I took my the family down for the week. Only really fished one day and caught some Jacks and shark. Took them out to Otter's Island for sea shells. I did see a bonnet head swimming around when I took them and couldn't resist. Caught me a blue crab and shark on in about 2 minutes.

I was down there a few years ago and had someone take me back up in a creek looking at alligators. I couldn’t remember what creek it was so I wasn’t able to go show the kids alligators. I’m going to have to do more research.

I’ve seen gators in the edisto. Lots of them. This was about ten years ago. I was pulling boards… and kept hearing splashes about 40 yards ahead of me. Once I saw these long tunnels going into the grass I realized what it was. Big gators too. If it’s calm look in the sound for pelicans. They will be on the bigger pogies.
Danial, follow that creek between Otter and Pine back to the side of ■■■■■■■, I’ve seen lot of gaters there around what we call the hot hole! Then follow the creek out to the South Edisto just up from ■■■■■■■ cut.
quote:That was where I was thinking we went but I didn't go that far back in there. I went to the creek right behind Otter's. I remember a wooded bridge or walkway over the creek that you had to drive between the poles. Next time I'm down there I will venture farther up.

It’s easer to reach going up the other end if you can find the gutter! Try it a high. It’s only about 6’ wide at the river end. Great hole for bass back in there, but the bugs will carry you off!
