Recently took 2nd place in the MCAS Red Fish tourny (my partner caught the 2 that placed us) got a hundred dollar BPS gift card though. I picked up an Abu Garcia C3, buddy of mine has one that is just sweet as can be, thought i’d get me one. He’s got his on an Ugly Stick Lite 7’ medium-light action. I was just curious if anyone has any other suggestions for a good pole to pair the C3 with. Thanks.
I’ve never cared for the Ugly Stick Lite’s squishy tip action. I use Hurricane Redbone 7’ and 7 1/2’ medium and medium heavy sticks for trout & bass…good tips and plenty of backbone, but they are hard to find.
Shimano’s Terramar, Compre and Clarus are all good rods for $100 to $120. TFO makes a good rod that Danny Roark sells at Butler Marine if you like the split butt style (who doesn’t 
). They go for $99. Wright and McGill, an old name in tackle, has a line of rods in the $50-$60 range that are pretty nice, as do Bass Pro & Cabelas in their store brands. Of course there are the pricey Fenwicks, St Croix, G-Loomis and many others that are top notch.
All said, rod choice is very personal and we all have our favorites. Ask around a bit, then take the plunge. Good luck & tight lines.

I’ve had a 5500C3 on a 7’ Medium Ugly Stik for about 10 years now, it’s a fantastic combination. I would have preferred a medium/heavy action though, for inshore work using live bait. For throwing jigs, the medium would suffice.
Mine doubles for fishing for catfish also, which is why I would have preferred the med/heavy.

I second WildlifeSC’s recommendation about the Hurricane Redbone series. I always used the medium heavy action for largemouth bass when using artificial texas rigs. The sensitivity needed and the hooked fight from that fish is very similar to a spot tails and trout. Here’s a link to one on sale:
