Pompano fishing

Ive been doing some surf fishing and started to get into the pompano the last few days. What are the size limits and bag limits on pompano in South Carolina? I couldnt find anything on the DNR site about it.

No catch limit or size limit, that I know of. It is in the same category as whiting. Keep as many as you want. I have not caught one this year. Which beach have you been catching them on?

I’d love to catch one. What beach are you on? Cut shrimp or sand fleas?

I fished pompano yesterday up here in Myrtle. I used sand fleas because they were EVERYWHERE. Only down there for close to an hour but not a bite. Beach is walking distance from my house so I will give it ago about everyday now that the water temp is up enough. No limits or rules as far as pompano except it is a crime to fry that fine tasting fish:smiley: Got to bake or broil.

Thanks for the info. A friend of a friend nailed about 18 yesterday morning in Garden City on sand fleas…I’ve had luck on shrimp. I caught several real small ones in my cast net along groins in Garden City

I had caught a larger one, 1.4lbs, in folly about a month or so ago with cut shrimp at the surf line. Use a small #6 hook.

Ive never taken more than 5-6 fish in one day, but isnt there a 40 fish bag limit? no more than 40 in any combination?

Ive caught nice pompano at Breach Inlet IOP side at the edge of the inlet and front beach

Never caught one but heard they taste awesome. They are on my must catch list
