Pontoon offshore ?

Who else saw the Pontoon 20 something miles offshore Monday? Better yet who on this site was aboard ?

Bet it was that Pea Pod fellow! He’s always showing off! Did he have it up on plane:question:

Was a couple of acquaintances of mine. They’ve been talking about it for years, finally had the day and the crowd to go. They left with 2 radios and all safety equipment necessary and headed out. They say, as expected, that they had a more enjoyable day on the ocean than most, for the ‘toon took the swell like a champ. She had seen 7’+ in the lake a couple of times, and they weren’t worried. They had lots of buddy boats out with them and figured what the hell.

Can’t say I would have done it nowadays, but 20 years ago I’d have been right there with them!

They caught fish too, by the way.

7’ plus in a lake?

Not lakes anywhere south of the Great Lakes has it seen 7’. Or 6 or 5 or 4 or 3.

We all know how crazy that lake gets. Are we gonna actually go to measuring in inches now? Or will an anecdote not work to tell a story? Jeez guys, it’s the internet, being so literal will not help.

We’re not. We’re talking about a large pontoon boat offshore doing quite well in the ocean…and the captain being confident in it doing so based on LARGE WAVES (no way in hell they could have been 7’, right?) in our lakes on multiple occasions.

I hope someone on here snapped a photo of that boat. I’d love to see it out there.

For the record, they went about 60 miles out.

wow.

Easy, you’re on notice

I mean those boats float because they have enclosed pontoons which means that they can’t get swamped by definition. My only concern would be fuel. Did they carry some extra tanks?

Pod, I live on notice:imp:

Yes, but unsure of the details. They said the boat did exceptionally well in the swell, and looked to be way more stable than most of the smaller CC’s getting bounced around out there.

I took a toon on the lake during a storm once. Steep chop and whitecaps were cresting and rolling over the deck. Not anything Id want to be in on the ocean, doesnt even have to be rough for that go go bad.

But then again I saw a toon in Beaufort with enough people on it to fully submerge the pontoons, so what they heck your boys probably weren’t nearly on the verge of disaster as was the Beaufort tooners.

or it cracking in half. I had that happen to me on the big lake they call Gitche Gumee, but I did have a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more than my pontoon boat weighed empty
