Port Royal Sunday 5/3

Spent the day in the upper Broad River yesterday, from Cheechessie to Euhaw Creek to Boyd Creek. Hunted shrimp and couldn’t find any worthy of even bait. Hunted redfish and found hundreds of them, none of which would bite anything we had. They swam all around the boat half the day but had lock jaw. Caught 1 real nice flounder and 2 sting rays all day. Worst day of fishing I’ve had in a few years, for such a beautiful day. But the boat didn’t break and nobody got hurt and we salvaged the day by scratching a bushel of SC select oysters, the best in the world!

Smoked some on the grill today

Cool pics and yes, those local oysters are the best!

What ya got in the cast iron and does it do much for flavor?

Maple wood soaked in water. Yes it does, makes them smokey tasting.

Too bad Larry, hard to understand no bites this time of year, February maybe. I think I recognize the spot. I have not tried fishing in the smaller creeks yet, still getting some fish on the main river flats.

Dan, we were tearing up the fish in February. Yesterday was just one of those off days. We couldn’t even get a crab to eat a dead shrimp. I think all day we used about 6 shrimp and 6 mud minnows. Caught the flounder and 2 rays on mud minnows, never got a bite on a shrimp. Tried some artificials too. Fish were there thick, just not interested in eating.

Oysters are always easy to catch though
