Dayum, saltydawg…don’t hold back!!
IMO, Columbia is the armpit of the South…like a local there once told me, it’s 6 inches from he**!! Greenville isn’t bad at all…but then, it’s not the coast.
Move…if you don’t like it, you can always leave…

It’s not that Charlotte is a sausage factory. You just get used to being in Chucktown, and it’s 70/30, girl guy ratio. My nephew a COC grad is having to work for the first time in 5 years…ha ha…poor guy.
my 2 cents… I lived in the Clearwater beach area of Florida when I was a kid… my dad would take me fishing every weekend in the flats boat that he built with his own hands… I was forever tied to the ocean after that
we moved to Asheville NC when I was 8. Completely different, but incredible. I ABSOLUTELY love the mountains! Incredible stuff up there and I explored it all through my teenage and early 20’s years.
When I was close to graduating from Appalachian State, I took a class where we visited several recreation areas from Myrtle Beach to Hilton Head including James Island County Park. I was immediately fascinated by the ocean again and ended up getting an internship, working part time for almost 3 years (that how much I loved it here) before getting a solid fulltime job with the county parks.
I’m going nowhere! This place is absolutely amazing. I lived in a really cool place in Asheville and Boone, but Charleston takes the cake. I have ZERO regrets about moving here. I can’t endorse it more!
Like anywhere, there are lots of different neighborhoods, since I doubt you are moving to downtown, peninsular Charleston.
Isle of Palms?
West Ashley (still City of Charleston, but across the Ashley River)
Daniel Island
Sullivan’s Island
Mt Pleasant
Summerville
James Island
Hanahan
Goose Creek
Home prices vastly differ in between these suburb cities, and areas within these cities.
A good real estate website can give you an idea.

I was born and raised in Philly - lived there for 22 years, spent most of my summers in Sea Isle, similar to Folly. At least back then… Then moved to the Chesapeake for 10 years. I need to be near or on the water, need to fish near year round - hate to be inshore anywhere. Charleston is near perfect.
A dump? Philly is a dump, makes the worst areas of North Chucky look like a park.
Traffic? Ya’ll have no clue what traffic is.
Rude people? Other than the cant get overthemsevles yankee haters - ya’ll don’t know what rude is.
Expensive? Meh - more than other inland metro areas, but much cheaper than the major cities and the N.E.
Hot? Yep - its hot. But Philly got just as hot, but not for as long. But Philly also got into the single digits and has tons of snow. And they have skeeters…
Buggy - Jersey Shore rivals Ctown, execpt the horse flys have green heads, are 20x thicker and 2000x more agressive.
Now if you could only figure out how to make good bread/rolls - Ctown would be perfect.
