I have stated over and over that I hate these polls. For 1, if you are highly ranked it hard to fall in the polls unless you lose.
Look at Bama. They did not play but stayed number 1.
This is odd, look at OSU/Clemson. OSU has played 2 FBS teams(although that both suck bad). Clemson played a FCS team. But Clemson jump OSU in the polls.
This part pains me to say, but it looks like when they pick UGA/Clemson/USC they were pretty close. Clemson beat UGA by 3 at home. UGA beat USC by 11 at home. Both good games, so either all 3 teams are over ranked or they are fairly closely matched.
Then look at a team like Miami. not ranked in the preseason so they have a harder road to the top. Now they are a top 15 team.
I understand these polls are more for the media and fans, but when the BCS polls come out they use these polls are factors.
I agree… I never put much weight on preseason/early season polls for this same reason. Yes, it feels good to see my team in the #3 spot, but I know it doesn’t mean much and we could very easily be out of the top ten at the drop of a hat…

Look at louisville. Preseason #9. Now they are #7.
They beat Ohio and East Kentucky. And moved up in the polls. Their schedule has ZERO ranked teams on it.
If a team is very good and runs the table and plays in a decent conference, they will be where they need to be at the end of the year. Whatever happens during the year means nothing as far as the polls. After the NC game, we are all playing for bowl games and while it may affect some of us with where we picked and who we have to play, it doesn’t mean anything in the long run. If Miami goes undefeated, they will be in the NC game. Very unlikely that we have more than 2 teams with 0 losses. When that happens, then we can bit## about it.
As far as Bama is concerned. I believed they have earned the right to stay there until someone knocks them off. Big test this Saturday for them.
Polls are nothing more than talking points and conversation pieces that justify paying the clowns that do them right now. In reality not one poll means a thing until the 6th week of the season. Clemson being ranked at #3 doesn’t bother me one bit as long as they play the way they are capable of playing and don’t slack off. I told you people that this team was going to be better than any we had seen in years past, that the D would be greatly improved and that overlooking them would be a mistake.
Sakkerliner by contrast has a mediocre plodding offense, an outstanding D-line and a secondary and LB core that wouldn’t hardly be on the 2 deep at Clemson this year. They better grow up fast or what Murray did is going to be childs play compared to what Boyd does.
I found it funny that at the start of the game Tommy Suggs said that UGA had been beat up by Clemson but at the end said they were playing 10X better than they did against Clemson. Uhmmm, maybe Clemson had a good bit to with that.
Alabama won’t lose to T A&M, they are going to destroy them, Saban has had two weeks to prepare. Bama is the class of the field still, can’t take it away until someone knocks them down in convincing fashion. Oregon is just impressive all the way around, (**() they are fast. OSU dropped behind Clemson because the FBS team they played was on par with SC State and Braxton Miller got hurt, they were only a few points ahead anyway, not like it couldn’t go the other way this week.
Lots to play out still, injuries, emerging stars, team chemistry, etc.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Did you read the article on why and how the dude evaluates the teams in picking his orders? It has nothing to do with anything but the quality of the opponent and the win. No SOS, no conference, no what you did last year, nothing but the present game.
Clemson isn’t #1 or #2, Alabama and Oregon are.

Clemson won despite a lot of dropped passes. How many offensive possessions did the teams have in the respective games?
Would you want the SC team you saw Saturday playing the Tigers this week?

I post stats proving that not accurate.
Now the theme changes to “Would you want the SC team you saw Saturday playing the Tigers this week?”
Well since both teams are pretty even. and the home team seems to win… Yea, I’m ok with that.
There should not be ANY polls out until at least week 7. This way everyone has an idea of what teams actually look like. Pre-season polls are strictly for money making purposes both print and TV ratings. They are inherently unfair by thier very nature. If Alabama and Oregon are indeed the two best in the nation, then it will play itself out in 7-8 weeks of the season and then, and not until then, it should be posted. By then we have enough comparitive scheduling and head to head games to make a fair comparison.

Here’s a little bit for you to chew on regarding the stats while looking at the overall body of work.
(NOTE: I saw this elsewhere and borrowed the numbers, don’t have time today to calculate all this)
Total yards can be a little deceiving, so I broke it down a little…
Clemson and UGA game:
UGA had 14 full possessions (1 ended the half so I excluded…15 total)
Clemson forced 6 punts, 1 turnover on downs, 2 turnovers (9 stops)
Clemson forced 5 (3 and outs)
Clemson stopped UGA 9 of 14 drives
UGA scored on 36% of its drives
5 TD’s
SC and UGA game:
UGA had 9 full possessions (2 ended the half so I excluded…11 total)
SC forced 2 punt attempts (one was fumbled snap), 0 turnovers (2 Stops)
SC forced 2 (3 and outs)
SC stopped UGA 2 of 9 drives
UGA scored on 78% of its drives
5 TD’s and 2 FG’s
Thought it was rather interesting…This was a quick glance at the stats. There could be a small mistake, but I think I calculated correctly. Again, I excluded the drives that ended a half because to me those don’t really factor in when the qb is taking a knee to kill the clock.</font id=“blue”>
