Private no wake zones

How come having the means to afford a boat dock gives you a right to have a no wake zone? Is that for the common good?

No. It’s SC LAW

In South Carolina, vessels may not be operated in excess of idle speed within 50 feet of an anchored vessel, wharf, pier, dock, or a person in the water. Vessels may not operate in excess of idle speed within 100 yards of the Atlantic coastline (Sec. 50-21-870).

Just because there is a sign or bouy does not mean that the area is a no wake zone. Only the legislature can set a no wake zone they are listed in the code of laws. However if you are within 50 ft (which is not very far) of an anchored or moored vessel, a dock, pier, wharf or person in the water you the law says you are suppose to pass it at no wake speed. 51 ft or greater let it fly, although at the end of the day you are responsible for any damage you may cause if they can prove it. Hope this helps

Sorry for redundant post

all of hobcaw creek is nowake signed. angers me.

Then since kneeboarders are in the water they should be pulled at idle speed. This would have allowed me to fish Beresford last weekend.

Docks should pay a big azz annual fee to DNR for the sign. $1000 oughta do it.

I think they should add BUI checkpoints on Hobcaw. Peapod fines could build a new landing!

Only legal no wake zone in Hobcaw creek is around the marina after that its up to your discretion. Granted the area directly adjacent to the yacht club and the bluff are in an area where the creek is fairly narrow but at high tide probably greater than 50 feet wide.

Vin you know I’m building a file on you right?

I just find it interesting that people can encroach on a natural resource & navigable area and suddenly have the right to post signs telling me to slow down. The water was there before the dock, so if your dock and boat gets tore up because tax paying rednecks like myself are hauling tail up and down that creek, then prepare to fix your chit and shut your pie hole.

Apparently they have plenty of money, and they desire to live on MY waterway. Good on 'em! Just be prepared to rebuild your dock every few years because my wake ate it up. Put a lift on it to protect your boat from wake Nazis like me. And pop them with a hefty fine if that dock falls into disrepair.

Just don’t tell me to slow down.

And trust me, I don’t begrudge wealth or success. Good on 'em for being able to afford it. Just don’t let your good fortune encroach upon me. Especially when MY wake was YOUR choice.

Actually, not at all. I was slowing down like the rest of the sheep - which is what got me to thinking - WHY?!

I don’t like being herded. I’m the lemming with the safety vest.

Nah. I’ll have a conversation with a yeller first. Then…

I am one of the lucky ones that have a dock and lift.I will never complain about someone going past wide open. It’s the guy that plows along that causes damage. If it breaks i just fix it and move on.People with docks need to learn wide open less wake.

If I ever had a dock and had to keep my boat in the water you can your azz I’d have an awesome breakwater wall installed, like that guy next to Remleys!

Natural resource – Bo the fish and crabs/shrimp and birds, creek banx, whatnot were there b4 your fast boat or the rich docks. Both just as bad on intrudeing. Aint our water its the fish and animals i think. Two. Where u in such a hurry in a creek? Racin to dock hole? Slow down, drink a coldy, fish a new dock, enjoy the ride brah. Run fast when u get riverside.

Hope you caught something Vince.

I think people get carried away with going to fast down small creeks. I was fishing a creek north of wappo cut and it was only about 30 feet wide and what looked like a small yacht came flying past me within 10 feet and created a 3 foot wake. They actually had the nerve to wave at me. That wake also eroded the side of the bank.

When fishing a flat, tide is money. And even though I adjusted for the time it would take to tip-toe past the docks on Beresford, I still question why I should have to. I’ll smell the roses when I have time and choose to.

I live in a subdivision where my neighbor used to squirrel hunt. They leveled every tree, built the houses, and planted one new tree at each house, along with 13 shrubs. It was a natural resource once. Wetlands, to be exact.

That doesn’t give me the right to put a speed bump out front just because I have kids. I just have to adjust my life around my choice.
