Optiker, can you give an update on what has been collected from all donors so far?
Sure, Thanks for asking. We are at $5,600 +/- .
I have Project Respeck performance shirts coming of which 100% of proceeds will go to the fund.
Also we met with Charleston Coastal Anglers club and had a presentation from Waddell and they have pledged to help significantly with proceeds from their tournament and also a business owner pledged $1,000 and was going to challenge others to match it. I think that is what we will need to really get the momentum going again.
We also have had some businesses pledge in-kind donations (ie products) and we are trying to figure out how to convert that into cash for the fund (thinking online silent auction or something like that).
Thanks, - Dave
BTW we still have our special trout eyes available for a $20 donation on our store at eyestrikefishing.com The entire $20 goes to the fund, BTW. The jigs are our donation.

Just wanted to ping this up again. We still are soliciting donations at projectrespeck.com (use the fund that is pre-populated, the CPR Fund) and still have our Project ReSpeck trouteye jigs available at eyestrikefishing.com for a $20 donation of which all $20 goes to the fund. We are still at $5,600. Captain Greg Peralta is having a fishing seminar tomorrow and has asked his attendees to make a donation, and one of the recipients will be the fund - so we are really appreciative about that!
We do have some big news coming as well but I can’t disclose as of yet. Thanks for your support.

Another update for ya. We had Vapor Apparel approach us wanting to help, and we had some solar shirts made up with the Project ReSpeck logo. They made them for us at cost, so that we can donate the max amount to the fund. I have them for sale on our online store at eyestrikefishing.com => Buy Now => Donations. They are $45 and 100% of proceeds goes to project ReSpeck.
The fund is currently at $5,800. We had Charleston Coastal Anglers club recently pledge $2,000 to the fund (huge thanks to them!) and this amount is not included in the total above. I have $140 in donations that I have yet to submit as well. So, we are probably potentially at a little over $8,000 toward our goal.
Please consider getting yourself a solar shirt to show your support for the project and Waddell Mariculture!
We still also have Project ReSpeck Trout Eye jigs available for a $20 donation and all $20 goes to the fund.
Thanks, Dave

Optiker, don’t you have some good news to update this thread with?

PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Angling community unites to give Mother Nature a boost
Project ReSpeck to enhance stock recovery capability at Waddell Center
Columbia, S.C. - This past January, record cold weather set in across the Southeast causing a noticeable fish kill along the entire Palmetto State coast and calling into question the future of several popular species of fish important to recreational saltwater anglers. A conversation by a group of concerned industry parties focusing on what action could be taken to hasten a recovery began and out of that came Project ReSpeck; an initiative to provide $25,000 in funding to establish the ability to spawn, grow, and release spotted or “speckled” trout into South Carolina’s estuaries. This past Saturday, after months of collaboration, Project ReSpeck and the Coastal Conservation Association South Carolina (CCA SC) presented a $25,000 check to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources for the installation and operation of five maturation tanks at the Waddell Center in Bluffton, SC.
“Based on what we were seeing on the water ourselves and as reports came in from across the coast, we knew some action was going to be needed,” said Joel Levine of RedFin Charters in Charleston, SC and originator of the effort. “We felt the recreational angling community would see the need for and be willing to enthusiastically support a campaign that would provide a meaningful path for recovery. With funding for five tanks, it has obviously surpassed that capability.”
The tanks will provide the SCDNR staff at the Waddell Center in Bluffton, SC with a powerful stock enhancement tool. By simulating spawning conditions in a controlled environment, species such as red drum, spotted sea trout, and even flounder may be produced for the purpose of releasing them into the wild to supplement existing populations. The process could be expanded to include a variet
Thanks for the reminder Stump, and thanks to all here who contributed. Special thanks to Charleston Coastal Anglers who donated proceeds from their recent tournament to the cause, and Summerville Saltwater Anglers who have donated pretty much every month. Just a side note - Project ReSpeck was the first project to be funded through our parent Fund called the Community and Professional Response Initiative (CPR Initiative). We will decide on what we want to donate to next and will continue to receive donations to the CPR Initiative in the mean time, and you can be sure that the funds will go to a worthy conservation oriented cause! Thanks - Dave

Thank you to all contributors to this cause. But thank you most to the guys who initiated the effort.
That’s great news.
How did they fund 5 tanks for the $25K? I thought the original project was for one tank that cost $25K.
Is it cheaper/smaller/different tanks than the original plan?
Just wondering…
Flicker - Initial discussions with DNR / Waddell pointed to the cost for one tank of $25K but after they thought it over some more they had better ways to utilize the money. Basically right now they have I think 4 maturation tanks at Fort Johnson, and they are in progress of moving all of them to Waddell to a refurbished building so they can do the breeding right there and they only have to move the fry about 50 feet to the large ponds for them to grow in. Vs having to truck the fry from Charleston to Beaufort. This is my understanding and I may not have it all right but you can be sure they are using the funds for good purposes still related to spawning more fish.

Thanks Dave
I never had any doubt that the money would be put to good use. Just interested. That’s all.
Thanks and I didn’t take it that way, just want to let you know what the current plan is. Fact is, Waddell could probably use another $50K

Dave, thanks for all the hard work you put into Project Respeck, and to all who made donations, and gave of their time for this project. It’s great to see everyone pull together and make this a huge success.
