are there still public oyster beds/grounds on Ashe Island? if so, where are they located. I tried to find them on the DNR website but could not get a good map to pull up. Ashe Island is still listed but the map is poor, as to the exact location. If anybody knows I would greatly appreciate it.
Go at low tide, and you will see them on the South Side of the island, then they can be reached at 2+ hour flood tide.

There are public and state grounds you can go to on Ashe, Beet, Pine, and Hutchinson Island. Go to SCDNR site - fishing - saltwater - marine - then Adobe link to sate or public grounds. Maps show it good if you have adobe reader.
If you come from EB go up the river, left thru ■■■■■■■ Cut, up the Ashepoo, left on ICW cut again, and next big creek on the left is Rock Creek. There you go left. The ICW goes on to the right toward Ashepoo- Coosaw Cutoff.
On Ashe you come out of Rock Creek,(off ICW - south of Bennetts Pt) At point where creek comes out in the flats, look at the right hand side. They go all the way around close to where the St Helena reef is on the Coosaw side. BRING BUG SPRAY!!!![]()

Jford, thanks for the help. I have always shrimped St. Helena and never knew those grounds were there. As a kid and old salt taught me how to get clams and oysters but we always went to Framptons inlet and the creek up there, but things have changed. Back in the '70s I thought all the clams and oysters were there for the picking and we always cooked what we got usually that night and those were fun days. Anyway, I don’t post much but sure enjoy the comments on this forum.
