Went out with Purpose One yesterday and slammed the American Red Snapper with capital letters, yes.
We caught probably 7 or 8 reds total and only one big boy was a keeper at 18 pounds!
1 red snapper (18#)
2 keeper gags (8 and 15#)
2 strawberry grouper
1 cobia (32#)
4 triggers
2 huge vermillion snapper
3 red porgies
3 dolphin
MANY more fish caught and released including red snapper between 17 and 18", gags around 20", porgies of course, B-liners, triggers, etc. etc. etc.
Finally found an area where the BSB have not overrun it.
Pictures later…
For the trollers, there were dolphin schooling all around us just inshore of the ledge, but they were skiddish. One lone bull was pretty good sized. He took one piece of squid from the handfull thrown to him and then dipped out. Large schools of slingers were about 40’ down at 2PM.
No…Actually I believe he said it was a “SLAM”!

It is not very normal to catch so many genuine american reds in one day of fishing now-a-days, so that’s why I said, “slammed.”
Luke 8:22-25
There are more of them out there than you might think. Check out Mark Brown's archives on www.charlestonfishing.net. They can be caught with consistency if you know how to find them.
That’s me on the left. I don’t have much to add to the report. We had a great time. Beautiful day on the water and a nice ride. Thanks Phin and Rick! The Purpose One is a quality operation.
I thought the micro dolphin were the 12 and 13 inchers that are like a month old. You’ve got to call a legal dolphin a slinger… at least a peanut…
er…
chicken…
micro is harsh.

Those big grunts eat good when they are fresh… seriously… they are some of the most underrated eating fish in the Ocean…and they also make great live bait…

This is not a chawade…
We need total concentwation…
Unfortunately, several more of the famed key worst grunts were donated to the cut bait bucket. I have released a few in the grease, and you are right. The big tomtates were the choice live bait. You know how they get down there and talk.
Howmuch, that is a nano dolphin dude. What color Ilander did she hit?
Porgies, B-Liners, Triggers, Key West Grunts, Sand Tiles, Etc. To me they all eat the same battered and fried. Then there is snapper and grouper. Any dolphin while sitting on the hook is a good dolphin, granted that he is cleanable. Micro, macro, mini…the customers enjoyed catching Dorado:slightly_smiling_face:That makes me good!
Phin, I sure am glad we gaffed them dolphin. They would have been hard to sling in the box. I am also thankful for the lessons in proper dolphin edicate.[:0]
