Quail hunting

Looking to book a trip. Who knows good clubs or clubs to pass on??

Thanks

Call back woods quail club near the intersection of 41 & 51 in Georgetown county. Google their web site. First class
Operation.

I will give them a call, thanks!

Dorchester hunt club is not far from Savannah just off I95. Have had some good times there. We even flushed up a couple of “left over” pheasant. Didn’t have to kick the birds to get em to fly. Lunch at the lodge is pretty darn good too.

A little bit of a ride but this one’s nice too.

Had the pleasure of quail hunting there several years ago. They definitely pamper you. And yes, you pay for what you get.

On the $$$$$ thing check with the club you choose to see how many birds are included and how much extra birds cost. Most of these clubs make a lot on extra birds shot. We shot 92 last hunt and it got a little pricey. Still have a few bags in the freezer.

For 1000$ I can carry my dogs out west and hunt for a week, fixing to happen in about a week but this trip will come in well under that number since I’m hunting with friends who live out there. To many opportunities in this great country we live in to want to kick up plantation birds and pay that kind of money.

Not so bad when you have a few friends that take you. You talking about wild Quail out West? I’ve only seen one wild covey in the last 2 years around here. Of all the areas I know near me that release birds to hunt you’d think they would repopulate.

I heard fire ants killed all the quail. We still have a few on our club, not enough to hunt, when was the last time you heard a bobwhite call?Remember that Roy Acuff song?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25LVwi9McV8

Was at a seminar a couple of years age and Fire Ants were thought to be a big part of it, but the dude lecturing seemed to think Lack of forest burn offs and feral Cats did more harm.

I’ve had my 171 acres for 20 years and have seen only 2 coveys.

Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.

There are plenty of theories…
But when fire ants, coyotes, fox, bob cats, coons, snakes, feral cats, wild dogs, turkeys and hogs come together you have a tough time growing up.

I don’t believe the feral cat thing, how bout hawks.Remember a while back when those rich guys got caught killing all the birds of prey on that plantation down in Jasper county,I think.

You can hunt public lands with a buddy for about 1k a piece when you add up licenses, fuel and a hotel, camping will reduce the price. We have enough quail and woodcock around to keep the dogs tuned up. I have 2 coveys behind my house, 4 on one of my leases, 2 on another and my buddy down the road has 5, habitat habitat habitat is all there is to it.

Hawks, fire ants, nest predators, had them all for a long time, when people started cleaning up every hedge row and ditch bank is when the population went down. If you have the habitat and food you can have birds.

a red tail hawk will follow a covey, until the last quail is gone.

Theres a red tail on every fence post in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas and more nest predators than you could trap, and they have birds because they have habitat. Wild birds know how to survive.

New near St.George.
