Question

Hey Guys,
I’m headed to Folly in early February. I’m leaving my boat at home. I’ll have my kids with me and was wondering if it’s worth bringing some rods down to fish around Folly. I’m thinking pier…but I’m open to any suggestions y’all might have.
Any thoughts?

Of course, I’m good to sit around and drink beer too.

The fishing will most likely be slow but sometimes the dog sharks schools come by and you can get in to them pretty good, other than that some rays, skates, whiting and silver perch and possibly a redfish also possibly sheep head. If the weather is nice when your here why not.

Could have some spotty action from sea trout or black drum along the groins if you pick the right ones and conditions are favorable.

I don’t bother surf fishing in the winter months. Some do it year round but I don’t get enough action to keep me interested til the water warms back up in the spring. But… if you’re taking the kids id say go for it. It’s about the experience for them, catching fish is just a bonus.

Agree, dont fool with the surf much in the winter. You could try the Folly pier or the surf, but my experience is things dont get really going to at least April or so. Better bet would be to take the family out to Demetre Park on James Island. Most spectacular views of the Charleston area and have a fishing pier there as well. Can google directions to it.

Pack your gear. No telling if the weather will cooperate. It’s freezing here today but will be mid-70’s later in the week. Winter is odd.

Thanks, guys. This is sort of what I suspected. I’ll bring my gear. Great tip on doing to Demetre Park. I’ll try that if the weather looks good.
