Questions

I am fairly new to scuba diving, but I have done a good bit since I started. I just had a few questions for you who have been doing it a while. I have done some spearfishing in the summer out of Murrell’s Inlet, and I’ve stuck some pretty nice grouper. However, I was wandering when in the year does the spearfishing really get better(at which point in the fall, and when does it slow back down)? I have gone out about 40 miles, and fished at about 107 ft in the summer. How far out do you have to go in the winter to get nice fish? Are you fishing live bottoms mostly or wrecks? What size suit are you using? And how in the world do you stay warm on the way out to your spot?

Any help would be appreciated

I live in Garden city so i spear around where you are talking about. If you want the REALLY big grouper you have to hit the live bottoms. And that usually means 100-120 ft. of water. keep in mind that when you are spearing that deep your only out there for one fish. Dont waste time on the small one. Another helpful hint…while diving L.B’s stay hidden in the trenches. The grouper jump in and out and its easier that chasing. Happy hunting.
