Hit the surf with Grace this weekend. Pulled a double and got out late afternoon Friday and Saturday. Friday I got slammed by the afternoon storms that rolled in. There was no getting around it. We were exposed on the beach with no shelter to be had. It proved to be a challenging day as we got dumped on for hours on end with it getting pretty hairy at one point with thunder crashing around us. We had no choice but to abandon the metal fishing cart and 5 lightening rods sticking out of it, and take to the dunes. We crouched down in a low spot and had to ride the storm out. After it passed we went back to slinging bait, but had a pretty slow day landing 4 small 3 foot sharks and a blue. The following day we loaded up on a bunch of fresh mullet and did some scouting and came across a beautiful area that I will target come fall. It looked quit fishy to say the least. Birds were busting just off shore within reach and the bait fish were everywhere. Pods rolling off the beach all day long were relentlessly being hammered by the pelicans like something I have never seen before. I didn’t have my gear so will be looking at hitting the spot in the future. We headed back to the house and geared up to try for a shark at dusk. We were overrun by the 3 footers. Must have caught 10 of them and a man hole cover size ray that locked me into a battle that would last about a half an hour. Those big rays don’t beach easy. Didn’t target the smaller fish as I was loaded up on fresh mullet and chunked for big reds and sharks. Neither ever came along and we hammered the 3 footers. I don’t know if all the rain had something to do with that or the unbelievable amount of bait rolling in the water had them full. And for Pea buddy, a beautiful double rainbow rolled in the afternoon:smiley: It was truly magical being out and experiancing mother nature. She is awe inspiring and I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to see her in full swing. God bless you all, and take care folks.
