Rare Edisto Visitor Black-bellied Whistling Duck

<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black-bellied_Whistling_Duck>

When I saw a ■■■■■ of these making a circle outside our condo, I thought “Are those ducks?” When they landed on a roof across the saltwater pond I knew they couldn’t be. Several pictures and an hour of internet research and…they are ducks!

Saw some at Donnelly on Friday too and thought it wierd. I remember seeing some at the golf course pond on hole #1 years ago at Edisto. I think they call them pichejuilas (peach-a-wheel-as) in Mexico.

Short grass and tight lines, make a man feel so fine!

Atleast it was not a ■■■■■ of milermores! Those things can be crazy.

I have seen them down here several times but not this close to summer

Bob,
You ever seen a milermore bird in Edisto?

Striker, No, but I’ve heard one whistle from a long ways away!

It is neat to see one stick his head in the sand and whistle out its butt, and you can hear it a milermore.

Bob, there were hundreds of them around wiltown this year, and we killed some by bear island two duck seasons ago, but like hackett said this is late in the year to be seeing them. Must be lost, haha.

been catching any fish bob?

Robby, Redfish and Flounder on Gulps, but only an occasional trout. Bob

Bob,

aren’t those fulvous tree ducks?
both whistling ducks but are they they same?

Catfish, These were Black Bellied Whistling Ducks, not Fulvous Whistling ducks (also called Fulvous Tree Ducks). The pink feet and bills on these birds were a dead giveaway! Bob
