Ready for cooler water

Got these over the weekend and spooled them both with 30lb Power Pro Braid. Gotta bite the bullet and get that trolling motor sometime in the next month. Ready to try and learn something this winter.

Congrads on the TM! I think it is almost as important as the graff/gps.

Still have to get a TM [:I]. It won’t be long though.

How necessary is i-Pilot if you absolutely don’t mind anchoring? Also, is there any way to have a quick release mount so the TM doesn’t have to stay up on the top rail all the time? Seems like it’ll be in the way because I have a front mount windlass anchor.

This fall winter and spring you will want to pull planer boards because they are going to be moving out of the big water and up the rivers and creeks. Not saying you can’t catch them anchoring but to me there is nothing like pulling boards and covering water. I love it!

The do make a quick disconnect for the ipilot, it takes 30 seconds to put the trolling motor on and take it off.

I was referencing having the I-pilot for the gps/anchor lock instead of just your average 72" 110+lb thrust TM. How necessary is it?

They do make a quick release clip so you can remove the trolling motor.

Also, I-pilot is absolutely golden. You may not need spot lock as much but I pilot for sure. I will say as much as we anchor and cut bait fish that there has been a time or two that even I wished I had spot lock.

X2! I like to stay moving. Even if I’m fishing downrods, I’m always moving. It might be REAL SLOW, but I’m moving. When pulling boards, i-pilot is an absolute must have for me.

On another note, Minn Kota is coming out with a new Ulterra this fall some time. It’s supposed to have a better GPS that holds better on spot lock. Anyone that has used spot lock understands and will appreciate this. Also will have a jog feature that will allow you to change your position slightly. If you’re close to pulling the trigger on one, I would wait for it. It may even be out now, I’m not sure.

The Ipilot is the best thing to ever happen to striper fishing. I would never be able to go back to a regular TM. When you find a school of fish you just hit the button and you are locked on them. You don’t have to go past and hope the wind takes you to your spot. Not to mention if the fish leave its so much easier to move on. For pulling boards the or even down lines it is even better. Being able to keep on track and maintain a speed while fighting a fish is huge. I remember getting spun around fighting a fish before I had autopilot, what a pain. I will never be without an Ipilot, at least until something better comes around.

The spot lock is priceless for down rod fishing. You won’t regret it!!

Would not buy one with out anchor mode! Had a foot mounted 80# before the I pilot and that was the thing. but after fishing with a buddy with a IP I had to buy one! Look around on the net and you can find a buy!

I bought mine as a factory refurbished on Ebay. It was about 25% less than the best price I could find. It had a 1 year warranty vs the 2 year. But I’ve had it for 4 or 5 years without a problem. Probably has over 1500 hours on it.

BP, the foot mount one you had, how did it perform just moving around in general, pulling boards and free lines etc?

Biggest issue on my boat is where to install a bow mount trolling motor. 8 have a windlass, bow mount anchor, spread out Nav lights and top mount switches for the windlass. There is NO room.

Take a pic of your bow while looking down on it. Post the pic and we will tell u where to put it

That’s really your only option unless you want to get creative. The puck that the TM sits on is only like 4"x5.5" or something close to that.

There is other ways but then your talking about fab work, money, etc…

And yes you would not be able to open you anchor hatch while the TM is on the boat but honestly you should never have to open it when TM is on the boat. And if you do, all you have to do is pull the pin and lift the TM up.
