Yes the foot mounted worked well, had to learn how to turn in the wind but not a problem, it has a wired remote, 24 V 80# Call me if you want to try it! I have it on my GM but it only takes a few min to unhook it. I have been running both the I pilot and the foot mount to get 160# Great for school fishing. You will have to drill 4 holes in the cav plate. 864=350=8211
Thanks BP. What kind of boat are you fishing? I wouldn’t ask you to go thru the hassle, I could just hop a ride on your boat to check it out.
MM, still not convinced there is ample room the have the full plate etc and then wiring it would be a t-total nightmare with all the crap up front. I’m weighing my options and may go motor mount and if it’s breezy I’ll hitch a ride or take my dads 16’ CC when he mounts a TM.

I’ve got the motor on a 20’ tri hull Glasmaster also run it on a 23’ Robolo . I use a home made bracket out of 1" starboard to switch the IP to my whaler, Robolo and Carolina Skiff. those heavy battery are the toughfest job. call me!
It looks like there may be enough room on the port side of the bow. If there is, then there wouldn’t be any interference with the anchor locker. Another thing to keep in mind, your boat looks like it will need a 72" shaft motor. Minn Kota DOES NOT recommend using a quick release bracket with SOME of their 72" motors. I’m not sure which ones, but that is something that you would need to research.
As long as you have a suitable place to mount 2-3 batteries and an on-board charger, this looks very doable. Just a matter of how bad you really want it.

If your dad is local and you have access to his boat, why not just go ahead and buy him one for his boat? You won’t have room for the kids when trolling planers and free lines on his boat, but you can still take them out on yours for perch, catfish, cut bait for stripers and drifting live bait in the summer months.

I’m thinking I’ll go motor mount and see what happens. I have 3 batteries on my boat already.

I did the motor mounted TM on my 18.5 Scout when I first got it. Could not fish by myself as I had to be on the wheel all the time. Waste of money in my opinion because conditions muse be perfect to use it. Got rid of it quick. It’s like pushing a rope. Quite frustrating.
Joby
I fished on a boat with the motor mount TM and every time the slightest breeze hit the bow it spun the boat. I really don’t think you will be happy with it. Triton220 has a similar front and we mounted the Ipilot on the bow with no problems. Maybe he will see this and post a pic. If you haven’t, go fish with someone that has the Ipilot. You won’t want anything else. The 80# would be fine on your boat for Murray, wouldn’t work to great in a ripping tide though. Only need 2 batteries for the 80#

That’s why I’d say go with getting one for your dad’s boat. IMO, there’s no trolling motor solution you will be happy with for a boat that size. You not only have to think about how much thrust it will to move you, but how long it will last.

You should be able to mount an aluminum plate that extends forward far enough for your quick release TM mount on either side of the anchor hold. Combine the two running lights into a single red/green bow light and eliminate one cleat…

On a large boat you can drag drift socks to slow your speeds if your engines are to fast at the lowest speed they go. The cheap easy option is dragging a 5 gallon bucket on a rope or 2 it will usually help.
quote:That will work in open water pulling u-rigs and such but having that I-pilot for pulling planer boards is the way to go. And the fact that you can spot lock on top of the fish with down rods. It was pure hell before I got me a trolling motor on my old boat. Can't tell you how much this trolling motor has helped. But you do what you have to do to be able to fish, I understand that 100 percent.

I use to see a set of trim tabs with el motors on them advertised in salt water fishing mags years ago that might be the way to go on that size boat, drive it like a skid steer 1 in forward and 1 in reverse to quick turn, would be nice with a joy stick! Just a thaught!!
Starting to seem like a second, smaller bay boat is the way to go. Don’t think the better half will agree.
