Recruiting

Now the national signing day is over, lets discuss recruiting as a whole.

I do not like that colleges recruit kids as freshman, soph, juniors. I think it is to much for kids 15 years old or so to handle.

If a kid is offered a scholarship, then the school should honor it, period.

What do you think should be changed?

I really hope this does not turn into a typical CU vs USC post

Does seem Kids are being looked at earlier and earlier. I’ve seen threads discussing the 2017 Class on other boards already.

I am not a fan of the media hype about national signing day. My belief is this is the start of a “I can do anything I want attitude” for some kids. Don?t get me wrong most of them are great kids, but that type of hype is too much for me.

Seen a young man on the news with a blue BAMA hat on, then put on a Auburn hat but the media said he is still looking at Florida. ???

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

Can recruits sign LOI before signing day? I think they can but not sure.

There is a 2 edged sword here. Because the recruit can change his mind at the last minute which leaves the schools with an un-used scholarship. So then the school has to scramble.
The same is true on the other side. The school can pull the scholarship at any time, leaving the recruit scrambling for a school

If a kid can graduate HS early with good enough grades he can sign his LOI in late December for a January enrollment (spring semester).

The Power 5 conferences are discussing a signing period in August so a kid can at least enjoy his Senior year without getting hounded all day and night.

Regarding rutting them early…I think you have to consider it also helps the kids to some degree. They get to attend college camps where they improve their skills and get coached by college coaches which in turn gives the coaches a chance to evaluate them.

Yes, I think a college should have to honor a scholarship but with a loop hole for kids who get arrested or can’t get the grades.

What is the purpose of a signing period? Why can’t a kid sign at any point

Seems to me there is a lot of money now made off of this entire process. Once that happens things tend to spiral out of control. Recruiting a kid that is still in middle school like in this article is getting out of control. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8199497/soon-8th-grader-dylan-moses-offered-lsu-tigers-scholarship I guess very much like the business world, college recruiting is a supply and demand business.

There are so many recruiting services now, these younger talents are easier to find now. I don’t mind colleges offering a kid in H.S., now if the kid is in middle school that is a little to early for me. You are starting to see a lot more Camps on the scene for these H.S. athletes to go against the best of the best, and it starting to resemble AAU basketball, especailly down in FL. If you were an elite talent in Basketball, you would have these basketball factory H.S. contacting you, offering you a scholarship and boarding to come play for them to learn, train, and play with the best. You are starting to see that in H.S. Football now also. Just look at IMG Acadamy in Fl, the Football department is run by Chris Weinke. He scouts these H.S. kids at these camps all across the country, and is now offering them scholarships to come play with the best and learn from the best. IMG has almost 30 of the top 100 players in the nation on scholarship. It is crazy. And this is just the beginning, this school is a recruiting hot bed for FSU.

I don’t mind if a school pulls an offer, but there should be a certain date set I think. Pulling an offer 2-3 days out from NSD is wrong.
