When I use cut bait I like to use black steel leader and circle hooks. this way I do not get bit off from sharks and bluefish. So my question is are red fish leader shy?
No mam
When the sharks are thick I will throw on steel double drop rigs and catch them just as good.
Thanks guys.
I am spending a week on the beach on Edisto Island. Leaving in two weeks. I caught my first keeper red this early summer there. I was fishing with Blood Worm Fish Bites. Hopefully there will still be some around.

They are loving mullet right now too
Not only are they not leader shy DNR recommends using a 6” leader after a fixed weight. My rigs consist of a barrel swivel, 18” of 80 pound leader crimped to a three way swivel that has a snap for the weight, followed by 6” of mono crimped to an 8/0 non offset circle hook. This type of rig greatly reduces the chances of gut hooking large Redfish that are in the surf this time of the year. Google SCDNR for more information.
