Red Snapper Season Starts With a Bang

The reports came rolling in this past weekend with some pictures of some very pretty red snapper. Anglers took to the water to take advantage of the first three says of an new 8 day season, that is broken down into two 3-day weekends and one 2-day weekend. The past two years anglers have only had one 3 day weekend to fish and the weather has not cooperated very well, leaving anglers frustrated. So far this year the catches have been very nice and even though there were rain storms rolling around many anglers were able to get out and get some delicious table fare.

The limit is one fish per person with no minimum size limit. The weekend dates for the 2014 season are as follows: July 11-13; July 18-20 and July 25-26. After this we will go back into a closed season until again next summer. The South Carolina DNR is also asking for red snapper carcasses so they can learn more about these fish and the health of current stocks.
