Redfish on the flats

Does anyone know of any flats that are accessible without using a boat?I am just getting into red fishing and don’t have the excess ability of a boat right now but would still like to try my luck on a flat or two. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

lol…Probably have better luck asking if anyone had 100$ to give to ya…

Welcome to the site anyway!

Most flats that don’t require a boat to get to you will see from the road. Spend some time riding around your area at high tide and find what you’re looking for. Good luck.

I’ve been curious about this. I’ve heard of people wading certain flats but apparently I’m around the wrong flats because the bottom is way too soft to wade (don’t ask me how I know that HA!).

But I get what you’re saying, stump. probably be easier to get a spare key to people’s homes.

Hey RedfishSC…hope you didn’t mind us having a little fun with ya. I think Demetre Park might be a good place to start if you are on foot. There are a few flats areas up the Cooper River at Bushy Park and near Daniel Island. Good Luck!!!

Its all good fellas.ive got thick skin.lol.thanks for the tips guys

I’m also trying to locate walkalble flats to fly fish. I’ve found a few just from scouting on Google Earth as mentioned above for areas with lighter colored ground, generally seen around islands/high ground in the marsh. Also got some help by going to a local fly shop, spending some money, making conversation and asking questions. I do have a boat to access them too though so I try to make mental notes when I see an area of short grass. Takes a lot of dedication to get to these different places I’ve seen or want to see at different height tides to figure out which are fishable at what tides. It’s going to be a long process to get this figured out.

I was being serious with my question. I don’t mind showing a young person what to do if they are passionate about fishing.

Try the new park they built under Cosgrove Bridge. Flats to the left and right. I have seen people swimming over there so the bottom must be partially tolerable.

As stated above,
Tall grass = Tall mud
Short grass = Short mud

I did not know that. Interesting.

finding flats is 99% of flats fishing. 90% if youre fly fishing. learn how to find flats, don’t ask where one is.

my advice: google maps, tide search under “sciences” tab on this site, and start a tide log. ive got about 15 trips over the course of 14 months in my log. just got my first tail on the fly last weekend. i live in columbia.

Uh, what about an old(er) person who’s absolutely obsessed?..

I know I still owe you a trip; let’s look at the next tide set!
