Redfishing Advice?

Hey guys. I am a college intern living in Charleston for the summer and I love to fish. I am on Daniel Island and have been fishing the dock and shoreline for a few weeks now and have caught a good amount of trout including an 18 incher, but I am relatively new to saltwater fishing. Still looking for those redfish though and I would LOVE to catch one before I have to go back to school. Any good suggestions as to where and when to go or what to use? I don’t have access to a boat so I’m stuck fishing on piers or shoreline.

Z, find an exposed oyster bed close to the grass at low tide. Fish with mullet, mudminnows or cut bait on the bottom next to some oysters and you will catch a redfish. Also if youre fishing docks, cast under them or right next to the pilings. Make sire youre using power pro because the redfish will go right back under that dock when you hook them… have fun and good luck. I hope you catch one, theyre alot more fun to catch than trout.

low tide is definately good for reds but dont ignore high either. ive caght several redfish even at slack high tide and im stuck on shore just like you say you are. during high tides they cruise around the grass for food and if you toss either a finger mullet or chunk of crab on the bottom right by the grass it stands a decent chance of being picked up. worked for me last summer and good luck! i also second hanging around docks but have something you can tighten the drag up as it WILL go for the pier posts.

structure, carolina rig with 3-4"mullet, in this heat and bright sun look for the shade.if your not getting bit, move. look up riverfront park.tons of spots around there to get to on foot
