Just curious…is anyone doing any good on the flats??? We were all over the fish yesterday and they would not bite anything we threw at them. Several schools in several spots and nada…gulp, mm, mullet and blue crab and not a whiff.

its not just you… i poled alooottt of water looking for schools where we had seen them 2 weeks before and we only saw one small pod with 5-8 fish in the school, and they wouldnt eat a thing
Saw several large schools on Saturday in the Wando. Tossed everything at them and only one taker all day. Seemed to be cruzin and not interested at anything else. I guess that they have been pressured all winter long, especially this winter with the nice weather. One school had over 100 fish near Horbeck. I was surprized to see so many still in large schools. I guess this 80 degree weather will break them up soon!
Went today out of N. Edisto and threw at em on the outgoing tide for 2 hours, and not a bite. Fished 5 seperate schools. On top of that, the normal inshore docks for sheepshead sucked, too. Only ended up with 3 before quitting at 2. Water was 68 degrees and the reds were hauling ace from any noise whatsover. Man, I hate it when they act like this.
Raddaddy, Have I still got some filets? Taking Col. Bob’s son, George to Wayfar Farm, Thursday, for him to harvest a gobbler Fri morn. Bob

Same results to the south, after the water leaves the grass they start turning off. I’ve been on large schools in no water and they won’t touch a thing till the waters moving good.

Well, since it is that time of year, I would say that is impossible!!!
reelly…
The general consensus from the people I have been talking to is that they are not exactly having fish jump in the boat. Sure you have your exceptions for the people that spend 280+ days a year on the water. I don’t care what anyone says, the last 2 weeks of march and the first couple of weeks of April have been the slowest producing times of the year for several years now. I know you have certain guides out there that catch 15-30 fish under any conditions every time they hit the water.

J.R. has been quoted on this site about how tough fishing can be in April, so it DEFINITELY is THAT time of year. Just pulled in from the Savannah IFA and will have to say that in the last 3 days, the fish have somewhat snapped out of their doldrums down South and were willing to chase baits. Water temp. was 72, and that’s just freaky for March. Hope this more aggressive trend continues
without question the toughest time of the year for me. one day we’ll catch 20 reds and then next struggle to get 2. it doesn’t seem to get get consistent until late may. but when the little menhaden get here the next few weeks, the bite will be great. agree with last poster though the last few trips have been great. the bigger fish have been eating muds, crab, and fresh cut mullet. we did really well on saturday and monday.
