Greg1, you are quick to point out that you are a more experieced offshore angler than I, and that may be true, but the people I fish with are some pretty experienced anglers. I keep asking this same question in the offshore community that I know in Charleston and I keep getting the same answer…stay the hell away from this website. You are not making the offshore community any more tight nit. I ultimately do agree with you, but you take it too far. I’d like for you to tell some of the people I fish with to their face about pulling a sail fish into the boat. Chances are I know you or someone you know and this topic will come again, but in the future tone it down little, huh? Lets try yo make the offshore commnutiy tight nit again.
Take it too far? You keep posting and I’ll keep repsonding.
Why do think this is a big deal? This is fishermen discussing fishing. I think you should chill out not take it so personally.
You guys beat the dog crap out of a sail on video and posted it. All I did was point out that that was a brutal and possibly life ending struggle. Not exactly a perfect release. That’s all. Move on.
For the record…I never mentioned your name in the original post. This thread was for educational purposes. It has nothing to do with you. Put the ego on ice next to those slingers.
runnoft, chill out. Don’t make this into something it isn’t.
All greg is saying is that just because the charter boats in Costa Rica do it doesn’t mean it’s good for the fish.
As a charter in Florida every customer we had wanted to pull their fish on board for a picture. At risk of shrinking our tips we had to do what was best for the fishery and not allow them to do it.
All we can control is what we do on our own boat. Why not do what’s best for the fish?
Karma goes a long way in this sport. You never know when you may run out of bait 60 miles offshore. Sure is nice to have people out there thatwant to help you.
I think that if Greg1 was only concerned about the proper release of a billfish then he would try a little softer approach in educating fishermen on here, then we would all respect his advice. But instead he sounds like he just wants to get the last word in. Maybe he’s having problems at home or work or something. He needs a hug.

Thank you,
That’s been my point the whole time. I ultimately do agree with Greg, but all I am saying is he is a dick. It is guys like him that keep a lot of people from reporting on this site.
I would rather hear 5 more fishing reports than anymore comments from some a**hole.
Am I the only one that realizes that CatsassFisherman and Imponere are Greg’s alias? Really? He’s talking to himself and agreeing with himself all over the place. It’s quite humerous really.
He’s losing his touch. He might need to go on another “vacation” soon.

sailfish23-im not his ally im just agreeing that it is best for the fish to leave them in the water however i have no problem pulling one out if its their first bill

My approach was plenty soft. Go back and read every thread. It’s when I get accused of being a tree hugging environmentalist is when the debate begins and I may come off as harsh.
This thread is purely for education. The other two threads…if you can even find them…started off as nothing more than a discussion.
It’s not my fault you guys have trouble accepting the truth.
That article can be broadened to cover all catch and release fishing.
Nobody is saying that you don’t have the right to do whatever you want to do to any fish that you catch that is within the legal possession limit. Just be aware that what you do to that fish will affect it’s chances of survival, and make your decisions accordingly. If it’s your first bill, maybe you do pull it and take the picture, but you should be aware of what that means.
Does you all act this way whenever someone tells you something that you don’t want to hear? Grow up and take some constructive criticism.
Where is my mind?
Way out in the water, see it swimming…
On one post I even said to go ahead and haul it out for the picture if you must just don’t post it on the WWW and call it a perfect release for every greenhorn in the world to see and want to emmulate.
People see a picture of something and then want to go out and get their own. It’s an exponential domino effect.
I’m an ecommerce and advertising type and have been for many years.
One thing I’ve learned is that when using forums or email to get your point across, the context of your comment can be misconstrued. Inflection or tone can be horribly misleading when reading print instead of hearing the voice.
Many folks come off as abrasive when they don’t necessarily mean to be. Lets all keep this in mind whenever we’re reading posts and/or emails.

No kidding. It has amazed me for years how quickly people get defensive on the web. Myself included. When people call me a tree hugger and tell me to go cry to PETA it makes me want to argue and debate.
Nothing wrong with a good debate. You should hear my friends and I after a few beers.
i hear ya greg, some people think your tree hugging or peta love but you just keep on keepin on. the driveway ornament guy and others may not hear ya but most do yet just get frustrated for being called out. it’s all good. both of you have elevated the awareness and there’s always a few militants. cheers
It’s either ironic or unfortunate that this thread has done absolutley nothing to educate or promote conservation or releasing fish.

Why would you say that? Did you read the first post? The pissing contest ensued afterwords. Regardless of petty misgivings, I would hope that all on here would at least be moderately interested in preserving and/or increasing our resources. Not too long ago, the billfish population was in trouble due to longlining. I feel confident in saying that billfishing is better now than it was 20 years ago off the SE Atlantic Coast. At least in my opinion. Long liners really put a beating on the fish then. Newish regulations have helped the population of these fish…right now, we all have an opportunity to catch them… catching a billfish is pretty special no matter how many you have caught. You are free to do what you want out there. If you are intersted in doing your part to not put a dent into the billfish population, read the first post on this thread. If you think your catches will not affect the billfish population, ignore the first post. No one here can tell you what to do. My old man always told me to act like I’ve been there before…that may be good advice in this case…
