Hello all,
As usual this will be a fairly lengthy report and contain many pictures.
First trip:
This was a new spot for myself, but a long time favorite of Russ and his friend Travis who fished BTC with us. I have always been reluctant to fish this spot because of it not being far enough south. I was completely wrong and am a big fan of this location now! Requiem already has return trip planned here!
Friday afternoon:
Russ, Brent (new member), and myself head to said spot from Charleston and arrive around 530pm. We work on getting the first round of baits out, but even with two kayaks it takes a while with how many rods and people are fishing.
Shortly after setting all the rods we get a small run that makes us think sharpnose on a bait way too big for it to eat. The rod is handed off to Brent in hopes that he gets his first shark and that part of the trip would be out of the way. To our surprise it was a 45? red! Not a first shark, but a nice fish for him to start the trip with. At the same time I was landing a nice ray that produced later on.
The day progresses on with minimal action until later in the evening. Travis gets a solid run and when he hooks into the beast, he is actually drug down the sand about 5-10 yards. After getting his footing the line goes slack. Heartbreaking to find out the line was bitten off.
An hour later we get some decent pickups on another big bait. It took 4 attempts to set the hook, but Travis was rewarded with this 8? on the nose tiger. Her jaw was deformed pretty badly and she had a huge mating bite. I guess there are shark pedophiles too. She was tagged and released to grow up much bigger!
