Requiem Fishing - Perseverance pays10'2 Hammer

Normally I write these reports, but for this one, only the person who caught the fish can truly describe that feeling and how it went down. I got the same feeling when cathing my 12?3 tiger so here is Garrett?s account on his 1st big shark over 10?.

Greetings everyone,

Since receiving my new Everol 12/0 Two Speed reel, I have had only one thing on my mind: catching and releasing a very large shark. Up till this trip, I had tried two other locations, leaving empty handed on both occasions, unable to obtain my goal. As aggravating and disheartening as that can be for a fisherman, I knew I couldn?t allow that to phase me. To be able to achieve the goal I set for myself, I needed to continue to make a huge effort. I needed to continue to get lines in the water at any chance I could. On Friday, June 6th, at 7:30pm, I arrived at my selected beach site for this particular trip. Here I would set up shop for the next 12 hours. It was a beach site that I had never been to before, but decided it would be worth trying, at least once. I quickly unloaded all of the gear and equipment I would need to deploy the first bait during the last bit of daylight I would see for the majority of the trip. The beach was beautiful. A nice, mostly flat ocean awaited me and my kayak. I hammered the beach rod holder into the sand, rigged up the Everol, and tied a breakaway brick to the eye of my 18/0 Lindgren Pitman circle hook. The bait of choice for this trip would be stingrays. I had two large cownose rays in my bait cooler, ready for action. I took a wing and hooked it up on a single hook rig, and with that I was ready to paddle out for the first time at the new location.
