Mr. Ed is to wise for me, You seem to be an angry man. Why the hostilities? Is it so inconcievable that the fish actually swam away alive? Is it that unheard of to you? Look at the photo again and lets break it down. The breakers you say are behind me are actually further down the beach, NOT behind me. The picture was taken at an angle to the shore line. See that little lap of water just to my left? Thats the actual shore line from which she (not a him or a Lazarus lol) was pulled up and released. Not even 5 feet. She was pulled out, de hooked a couple quick pics and back in the ocean in less than 5 minutes. What you dont see in the pic are the friends that were there to help me make this a quick release. But listen, we can argue all day long about what you believe YOUR hallucination of the truth is, and what I know the truth to be. You can call me two faced all you want, but your just basing that on unfounded speculation. I know your just trying to get a rise out of me, but it’s not gonna happen. Best just conserve your energy.
But this is getting off topic of this thread and I dont want to rain on anyones parade or glory. So cheers to you Mr. Ed
The Tigershark was caught in 30 feet of water. All of the meat went to crisis ministries.
It’s more fun when it’s competitive.
Details, details guys! Bait(s)? did ya’ll chum or not? how long to get 'em boat side? tackle? I know the area, because we’ve fished it. I’ve fished for a looooong time for big sharks and never landed one that size.Had 'em on for several hours in that range before but had mishaps. Good fish, good fish indeed. Those fellas ate good that night, believe me.
Intelligence?? Really?? Huh. You should be more concerned about your avitar!
THE OCEAN IS NOT YOUR SWIMMING POOL!!!
Kettle-
I’ll take that into consideration. Thanks,

ps. You do know that all men over 45 with my space pages are flagged immediately in the Department of Justice’s database as potential predators(and I’m not talking about sharks). Just thought you should know. Good luck with that.
ok, i was not on the boat but a couple of them are good friends -
bait - looking at contents of stomach - anything from small sharks, stingrays to pelicans and sea gulls
chum - actually they achored up on a friends anchor buoy who was fighting another shark that took them out to see. they never put chum out, they hooked up within 30 minutes. possibly a big male and female in the same area. The one that was caught was male, and the other got away.
I was o the boat that landed the big shark. We were in thirty feet of water watching people on the beach of otter when we hooked up. The fight lasted about four hours and then we had to fight him again for about anouther hour trying to get him in the boat. We had him on an international fifty with sixty or eighty pound test. Approximately a ten ft. leader of 500 lb. test. We finally landed him with a couple of flying gaffs and hand gaffs ect. A buddy of ours had anouther fish on at the same time that appeared to be a bigger fish than the one we caught. All in all it was an amazing day. Hooking a fish that big is really only luck, but to actually land him took a lot of effort and team work. Great tournament. Fish was boated on the Full Strut from Edisto.

mommas,
what were some of his true measurables? Length, girth, weight??
Heard a rumor he was taken to the truck weighing station to get a number. Is that true? I heard 1100+....and if he was 13' I would have guessed more.
Just looking at the pictures and knowing the fish was 13’6" I’d say it must have been at least 6’ girth at the front of the pecs so based on the formula it has to be at lest 1,050. WOW! Mommasmoney, was that a 10’ mono leader… surely it was aircraft cable, right? How about the bait? I know what was found in the stomach but what was the bait? Were ya’ll floating or bottom fishing. Just curious because Tigers will often come to the surface as will hammerheads for food.
Anyone know any details on the big lemon and the hammerhead? What a day!
We never measured the fish. No one had a tape. It was a ten ft. 500 lb. stainless cable leader. I dont think that they took it any where to get a weight but everyone on our boat guessed 800-1000. A smaller shark was the bait of choice. It was the male. I am pretty sure a buddy boat had the female hooked for a long time before popping off. It was visibly larger but not exactly sure how nuch. The lemon and the hammerhead were both around 270lb I believe. Fish was caught on the bottom.

Sorry, I have used this formula many times and don’t know why I used the TL this time, but anyway. Using an educated guess at the FL and an educated guess at the girth ( based on sharks I’ve measured in the past), the shark is more likely around 900. I think this is going to be pretty accurate. I have personally seen a 12’ 701 tiger landed on a pier, that when I look at the picture has nowhere near the girth of this boy, and a 750 tiger landed at that same pier that has a smaller head and is only12.5 feet. I don’t know guys, but 900-1000 is not unreasonable at all. There is no way on God’s green earth that that fish was 600, I can promise you that.
the shark was huge! congrats. tourney was out of bennetts point. nothing wrong with taking a few sharks from the sea. i saw a total of maybe 6 or 7 dried out. thats all. those guys must have a bad a$$ hunny hole. and yes: if you knew what was swimming aound the surf, youd probably give up your swimming trunks. have caught 5-6’s on squid in the surf. and have had larger on in big bay creek.
The shark being held up by the backhoe is definetley closer to a thousand than he is to 600 lb. I have seen a couple over a thousand caught commercially and their size is consistent with the lenght and girth of that fish. Another APEX PREDATOR bites the dust. What a shame, I do wonder how old one that size is though.
23sailfish - are you a PETA member son? Half a dozen sharks were killed in the St Helena Sound and you raise a red flag. The meat was given to the hungry, and the fish were all used by biologists for research.
Anybody here how they got that beast in the boat?
