Take an Old Man Fishing Today!
Team Old School,
Is it your intent to fish the jetties just beyond the Cockspur light house? If so, get closer to the fishing point.
Unless you must start from River Street in Savannah, save time and fuel by entering the river at a local public boat ramp located at Lazaretto Creek. This boat landing is located just past the Fort Pulaski Park entrance and just before the Lazaretto Creek Bridge. (Hwy 80)
The jetties are about 1.5 miles, more or less from the bridge. My small boat with a 35 hp and 6 gallons of fuel makes this trip and trolls abit, using only ½ a tank of fuel.
GPS Nos N 32.01.271 W 080.51.974 (double check the numbers before setting out to the spot) if this is the spot then try the public landing at the Lazaretto bridge. Parking is not gated, so lock your vehicle and leave valuables out of site. Is there a tournament in the area at this time? Or, are ya just needing to go fishin?
The boat ramp will accommodate three boats at once, while the dock is only 25 foot long, and will crowd easily. Once you launch the boat head to the left (Facing the water from the shore) and you will be heading towards the bridge. As you round the first bend in the river, you will see an array of boats docked on the right. About midway down the dock is a bait and tackle shop, selling almost anything. They also rent boats, for which they need fuel, so they may have fuel at this spot. Otherwise fuel is located at Thunderbolt or Bull River marinas, both a fair distance from the jetties, with Thunderbolt being the closest.
Web site http://www.tybeeislandbaitandtackle.com/658016.html site also includes a phone number. This site also gives better directions to the bridge.
From atop the bridge you can see the Jetties easily at low tide. So, if you are unsure of the area and want to become familiar with the view, just drive over the bridge heading to Tybee and look to the left. You will see the Cockspur light house and to the north east you will see the jetties.
Fishin Savannah.
We will fishing the shootout in sept. We won’t be fishing the jetty’s, but we were curious about the run up the river so we can plan the time from where we will be fishing to make weigh-in.

We will be fishing a little north of Beaufort. As far as keeping up, we will start with just 2 engines at first. Just kidding.
