Rockfish at Packs

Anyone tried the Rockfish at or around Pack’s yet?

pack’s?? where would that be??

Hard to get to by boat from Murry!

I did not realize this was a Lake Murray only forum…my mistake. I thought I was asking a reasonable question. If you haven’t heard or haven’t been to Pack’s why not just leave it alone?

I dont think any harm was intended. Rick just didnt know where it was. And boatpoor was just being funny saying cant get to it from murray. We all get along quite well unlike the salty side of this website…lol…

There some that ask questions about the santee lakes, sometimes they get answered sometimes not. This is not a Murray board, its just 99% of the reports and people fish Murray.

I think asking where it is seems like a very reasonable question too. Rick has his boat docked on Murray, so what boatpoor said is a joke, but kind of valid. Fish usually spawn the last week of March on the congaree. With the warm weather this weekend/next week the water temps are probably going to hit the magic 60* and trigger the fish to run. I bet Packs would be good right now, but they might be moving up to the spawning grounds very soon.

Murrrmaker and Steelytom,

I appreciate the comments and the justification of Bootpoor and RickK’s comments. I do feel like their intent was to be smart!@#$. You said it is rare for anyone outside of the Lake Murray community to post anything in this forum. I can see why it this is what can be expected when they do. The people who may have knowledge to answer my question probably wouldn’t dare post a comment in this forum.

I guess we need separate forums for Lake Murray Sripers and the rest of the world.

Rockbottom3, just pullin your chain! I took my river boat to the shop yeasterday to get it ready for the river this month. Tore up the shifter last year on a rock in the saluda above Lake Greenwood. LOve to fish the rivers in the spring, Use to live in Sumter and spent a lot of time at packs both for ducks and stripers, 1970-72 a lot has changed since those days, love to get an invitatuon when they start running!

There may be a few, but it might be a tad early for them to be up that far. Right now you’d probably have a better shot of catching some starting around the mouth of the Diversion Canal opening into Moultrie.

Most of us over hear do claim Murray as the “home field,” but we do mention and talk about our experiences on other lakes like Clarks Hill and Santee. Back around New Years, I even posted about our trip to Cherokee, Tennessee. We like reading and answering about all things striper related. We do joke around occasionally, but it’s all good-natured.

Sorry if I offended you. I primarily fish Lake Murray, but also Clarks Hill, and Cherokee, occasionally.

I just did not know where “Packs” was located,so I thought I asked an innocent question. I mistakenly, assumed this forum was about sharing striper fishing information.

I will not make that assumption again. I can assure you that I was not trying to be a smart!@#$!!

Rick K

If they wanted to come off in true smart@ss fashion, they would have said, “What is a rockfish?”

These guys are top shelf in my book!

It ain’t no mystery…this beer’s history!

Where do they call largemouth green trout?

Re: Pack’s = upper lake Marion/Santee River. On the early side of the annual run, but fish (particularly males) have started to move in that direction (you know…males always ready to go before the females are… one of those univeral truths). I don’t have first hand info, but Packs Landing (803 452-5514) could provide you some current observations.

The striped bass (Morone saxatilis), also called Atlantic striped bass, striper, linesider, rock, pimpfish, or rockfish, is the state fish of Maryland, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and the state saltwater (marine) fish of New York, New Jersey, Virginia, and New Hampshire. They are also found in the Minas Basin and Gaspereau River in Nova Scotia, Canada.

I guess you don’t call them Rockfish on Lake Murry…my mistake.

who is the ass now, I just read this and it seems rockbottom3 is.

Local Boy, Just having fun.

Yes - I admit that I can be a smart@#$$. I apologize for that. I commend you guys for the comradery (SP) that you have…even though I am odd man out. I do stand behind the fact that I asked a reasonable question in the begining. RickK and boatpoor explained theri comments and I am ok. Here is the thing and if you are objective you will have to at least partly agree with me. The answers did have a “These questions don’t have anything to do with Lake Murrray” tone to them…that’s ok. Then Blue Runner comments on me calling them Rockfish which further confirms my point. A goodly portion of the population call them Rockfish. Anyhow I have enjoyed talking with you guys but it is time for this post to end.
