i believe the guy that stole the boat from the marina parking lot got cought. He stole some stuff out of someones car last week and the guy cought him and took a tire iron to his head. After his severe beating for the stuff he took out of the car i think the police found out he was the one who stole the boat
That is correct. Those culprits are now behind bars (one in the hospital) awaiting trial, but the trend is becoming a concern. The Edisto Marina Association (slipowners) are changing the gate design at the marina to assist in security for the boats, but last year’s theft of 80’s from the FinAddict were from the water…very hard to stop. The EMA has ongoing conversations with the Edisto Police Department who have been very helpful, and will be patrolling the Marina. All of us at Edisto need to be aware of suspicious activities, and like a Neighborhood Watch, work together as citizens to inform the police of what we see. At some point, unfortunately, we will have to lock the gates at night at the parking lot to protect the owners property if this trend continues. I was unaware of the trailer being stolen last year. Incidents such as this at the marina or parking lot should be communicated to the EMA so we can ascertain what steps may need to be taken to prevent future incidents. Please feel free to call me with any conmcerns or questions

How about security cameras at the docks and parking lot?
Cost could be split between slip owners.

Great idea!! I would invest in top-of-the-line equipment, though. We had some in the parking lot of my previous job and they worked great. It ended most of the problems. It was amazing to watch how brave the people were when they broke into cars. I used to leave mine unlocked until I watched the videos.
Our house got broken into on Edisto on Shingle Creek, a week old Yamaha 15 4 Stoke got stolen last year. Many a times we used to come down for the weekend and see bumbs who live down the street on our jon boat in the CREEK! Ridiculous and nothing we can do or else they will burn our house and property down.

Look into a SILENT alarm system for the property/house. It works and we have caught many in homes, businesses and even some car lots. The outside motion activated ones are great and could be employed near the area that boats and other outdoor valuables are left. This may not end crime there, but it will convince even the lowest on the food chain to seek easier meals elsewhere. If some burglary charges could be made occasionally, then the word will get around and some of those boys will be relocated to the SCDC system. Burglary 2nd degree is not something you want to keep stamping on your arrest pack.
Ha! I credit you and the Wimbo bros. with getting me hooked on beer at the tender age of 13. Amazing how many of those little Millers (believe y’all called 'em belly bombs) one can knock back from Webb’s to the Boro.
Surely you have mistaken me for some other dastardly lowcountry outlaw…
Heh heh…possibly it was Tuffy or Fishburne. (The dastardly outlaws of my youth are starting to run together in my old age.)
And boys, Edisto-Fisher is 100% correct on Capt. Mike being well known for his piscatorial prowess. If I were in the market for a guide in the Beaufort/HHI area, he would certainly be my first choice. A true Southern gentleman that will both entertain you and put you on fish!
They got me two weeks ago. The scumbags took two coolers, 4 cases of beer, and 4 bottles of wine from the car port. Sometime between midnight and 6 am. They had lots of other items they could have taken, but just took the booz.
Cops said they have had other reports and this has been going on for several weeks. They have their eye on a house on south end of Palmetto…
A small horse power motor was also stolen from a boat on Myrtle.

That was Rooney’s motor. He is 80 years old and those bastards took his motor off the USS Mullet,a ancient 25HP motor not worth much to anyone but him. I swear before all things holy,If I ever find out who took his motor they would rather spit in their dear old mothers face and call her a nappy headed ho than deal with the wrath I feel for them. He is one of the last good ones left.

I really hate to hear that Mr. Jim’s motor was stolen. You are correct in saying that he is a very, very good man. Those guys that did that will certainly go straight to hell. That is almost like stealing communion cups from the church. I was out late last night watching some little loggerhead turtles hatch and I did see lots of police patroling the beach.
It was my boat that was stolen from the parking lot. A '90 Hydrasports WA just refurbished and re-powered with 300 Yamaha 30" shaft. It was on jack stands above the trailer for bottom paint and the trailer was locked. The boat was recovered outside McClellanville several days later stripped of engine, harnesses, controls , instruments etc all new. There was a ribbon tied to the bow rail I believe marking the boat for theft. Someone wanted that motor. There were plenty of nice and newer boats in the lot. I had the boat since the early '90s and did all the work my self and didn’t feel like doing it again so I sold the hull and trailer. Edisto police said this was the first boat ever reported stolen from the beach. I don’t believe it was stolen by the person involved and arrested as mentioned above. This boat was stolen by a professional crew IMO. It was marked for pickup. They knew what they were doing to drop it back onto the trailer. The boat and trailer weighed in at around 6000 lb and was trailered to McClellanville.
Sorry to hear that about your boat. It is ridiculous to think someone would go to that trouble when there were other boats around. They had to want that particular one. Agin sorry for your loss.
It takes a sorry, sorry individual to steal from someone.
my family has been vacationing at Edisto Beach for some 35+ years now and we’ve seen it get progressively worse. We often leave boats locked onto the trailer hitch of a vehicle and rarely leave tackle and equipment in plain site. It’s a sad situation.
